Re: Westport

My long shot guess is that Char Bar will either temporarily or permanently move to McCoy's/Sailor Jack's space, using the currently parking lot as a lawn. This would let Char Bar to be unaffected by the construction noise, particulates, etc. from the Westport Manor project. The construction crew cou...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

(Calling Crystal City the 'D.C. suburbs' is a bit of a stretch.) In more ways than one: The Supreme Court of the United States has never issued a firm opinion on whether the retrocession of the Virginia portion of the District of Columbia was constitutional. In the 1875 case of Phillips v. Payne th...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

I agree with the talent theory. Amazon looked for locations with transit, but they prioritized workforce size and universities, I'm. But the city discovered its distance from the coasts was a problem, not a perk. “We were told when we didn’t make the final 20 that there was some concern about the si...

Re: Bike Lanes

Snow plows should push the snow as far to the right of the lane as they can without risking damage to the parked cars, but that means that a lot of snow will still end up on the unprotected bike lane. Also, clearing more than the width of the blades would require multiple passes, which takes time th...

It would also go pretty far towards revitalizing the area if the just sold the two lots they own north of 43rd to developers and gave land to the city to connect Washington Street to Mill Street.

Re: Proposition D: Raising the gas tax

The state maintains too many roads and will certainly spend a lot of this on new and unnecessary stuff, but we do need to repair roads and bridges. Have we forgotten broadway bridge fiasco already? It's certainly not perfect, but it can't be better and still pass. It is unpopular (and illegal) to to...

Re: East Village Transit Center

A retail only use would probably be feasible on this site. but if you wanted to do apartments, you couldn't put many units per floor due to the irregular shape and small size. I don't see many apartment buildings build under 100 units downtown, to get that on this lot, you'd probably need 18-25 stor...

The combined company would provide a cost-of-living adjustment to employees who move to Washington state from Kansas, T-Mobile President Mike Sievert said, but that would be an uncommon occurrence. An adjustment... down? For moving from KCMO metro to Seattle metro - I think that would be an adjustm...

Did he tell you to buy Netflix stock?
For real, if I was going to go back to the past, I'd buy all the stock I could, forget about antiques.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Cordish got the same result because the architects were all given the same parameters and told to make them look like a family of buildings. If you are given the same canvas and paint as another artist, and told to make your painting look like it is from the same collection, it will look pretty simi...

Shields is trying to get the scooter tax revenue put into the new affordable housing fund.

It wouldn't go far towards affordale housing, but it does keep the money from being used for mobility lanes.

I’m sure and not surprised. But, we have the choice not to participate in someone else’s pathetic life. People like Scott Wagner, who questioned Kander's motivations in a statement today. I know I joked about it, but that's actually pretty disgusting. [/quote Wow, link to what Wagner said? “If the ...

Re: Parlor - 1707 Locust

ETA: I also don't think it's fair for them to ask for tips prior to them actually delivering the food. At Parlor, you have to pay/tip as you order. So, in essence, it's more of a "good faith donation" than a "tip." A "good faith donation" is just a fancy term for a bribe, which is probably just as ...

Another quibble I have is related to tipping. This isn't just a Parlor thing, tipping for counter service has now become an industry wide thing. Why am I being prompted to tip for counter service? Worse at Parlor because suggested tips on the register start at 20% and go to 30%. What service am I r...
