Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Not good news. If only they'd consider Midtown in scope it might be more plausible. At least there are Amazon like services for hard to find goods/housewares. Function Junction in Crown Center helps a bit. A Target like store isn't critical but would be a nice score and momentum builder. If they ar...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

That is so stupid. The Kauffman is cool, but there is no reason you need to be able to see it from the liberty memorial. Just make whatever blocks it look better. Anyhoo, looking at the pictures from the liberty memorial, it looks like the west third of the building wouldn't block Kauffman, so they ...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Why is this site height limited to only two stories? Its only a block away from the convention hotel, which will be 20+, and the Opus apartments will be 6. Maybe we don't want something towering over the Kauffman Center, but 5-6 stories would be in scale. edit: I guess it is 4 on the south side, but...

Re: Midtown McDonald's Rebuild

Unfortunately, fast food places always insist on the drive through wrapping around 3/4 of the building, which would mean a. This or b. getting the building up against the sidewalk but adding a curb cut like this: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8932263,-87.631457,3a,75y,201.52h,98.69t/data=!3m7!1e1!...

Re: Downtown office vacancy

Maybe the CEO really, really, really likes BBQ. Or fountains. Or places that aren't Connecticut. That's a pretty strong combo. In all seriousness though, that would probably be a first among corporate acquisitions if a company bought a rival and then move the HQ to where the rival was, halfway acros...

Hey, it can always get bigger-er and better-er. It may be ineligible if they attach a private developer or something, though.

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

If Greitens resigns in disgrace, can we go back and try to get matching funding for this, or has that ship already sailed?

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

It overstates that KC has an international airport, which is likely not broad enough for their requirements. Its pretty indicative of our standing in the competition, which is that we really just satisfy the basic requirements of the RFP, but we're affordable. Sacramento and KC were included in tha...

Great name. The story would really help set the mood. They should put it on the back of the drinks menu or something, it's too short to buy. And then put Hemingway books front and center.

The apostrophe is pretty cringe inducing though. I also don't like the name, reinforces the perception that we get lots of tornadoes.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

So I think just about everyone both here and on twitter wants a Target, but what do you want from a Target that we don't have now? Even if we don't get a Target, what other shops would fill the need? I mostly go to Target now for kitchen supplies, home goods and consumable housewares: dish soap, la...

Re: Anti-rail proposed ordinance

Clever. It allows the city to let the streetcar to go forward without directly going against "the will of the voters". Unfortunately, it legitimizes the ordinance. Hopefully support for light rail will have increased citywide by the time we want to expand again.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

I think that downtown has almost all of those, and the things that it doesn't have will eventually be just a streetcar ride away. What we need is more selection of the things we already have, so that people can find what suits them, and more of the places that a person would go to often, i.e. Gyms. ...

Maybe 23 per floor? That looks about right. 69 units, 74 parking spaces. Maybe 16 are designated for extended stay?
