Re: Uptown Shoppes

I have a bad feeling about this. Has anyone seen any plans or renderings? I think it's the same plan as what has been discussed previously in this thread - apartments and parking on top of the shops, with boutique hotel in the parking lot. In theory it doesn't sound too bad, but with Larry in charg...

There's actually a LOT of unused space and surface lots between Brush Creek and 53rd St.

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Why would a small, private school sell land to UMKC when they (Rockhurst) are also burdened with the same lack of available land? Small private colleges like Rockhurst typically have significant endowments and operating budgets and higher tuition than larger public universities. That doesn't mean th...

When the 'official' announcement is followed by 'We'll keep you posted...' you have to imagine either Eden Alley is moving or will reopen after some changes.

Re: OFFICIAL: The Legends at Village West

I don't really get the draw of a Hard Rock Hotel in such an isolated area if there's no casino attached. Maybe if it were closer to the Legends, certainly downtown but I guess with this being the nicest hotel in WyCo and western JoCo it will do OK. So if a Hard Rock Hotel can make a go of it in that...

Re: Bike Lanes

39th is already too narrow for both traffic and parking in several locations west of Southwest Trafficway. In a couple of locations buses wait for oncoming traffic to clear before proceeding. Parking needs removed/reduced then you have room to widen the lanes and add bike lanes. The Complete Street...

Re: Bike Lanes

I was looking over the Complete Streets survey and the SW Trfy and 39th St proposals both mentioned a possible bike boulevard on 40th. Does anyone know if additional info is available about this?

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

Isn't VanTrust currently the group in charge of redevelopment? I'm also worried that they have something in their bag o' tricks that will benefit them but with no regard to the potential for the East Village.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The Cityscene article referenced a potential transit hub on the SE corner of Main/Cleaver II. I wonder how long that Winstead's location will hold on - that property would be great for a larger mixed use development that included a transit hub and a counter-style upgrade of Winsteads.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I don't think anyone is up in arms over the loss of the fountain, but if one is built, there are plenty of other lower-cost options than one that requires pumping water up to the roof. And come 'cloud' art hanging from the ceiling would go a little ways to prevent it from looking like the inside of ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Paneled wood is going to look outdated before the airport even opens. Nothing art deco? No limestone? Maybe some Plaza-esque touches? And is the only fountain they could think of one that hangs from the ceiling and suffers from 'installation issues?' Spend a LITTLE money to keep this from looking li...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Almost impossible to tell from these poor initial renderings, but where is the awesome scallop-roof design from the preliminary images? I loved that element, and if we get a generic flat box I'll be very disappointed. I understand perhaps losing the two-story indoor fountain, but first impression i...

Re: "Tower East"

I believe the name Martini Corner came into effect when The Drop opened. They definitely had martinis. I think the Velvet Dog has them too for a bit. Martini Corner was used well before The Drop came around. When I first moved to KC in the early '90s, Velvet Dog was one of the first area bars to la...

Went to the Plaza on Sunday to run an errand and was shocked at how many people were Pokemon hunting. No wonder the Plaza has banned scooters - there were HUNDREDS of people walking around with phones (some with multiple phones) corded to an extra battery and with ear phones/buds just wandering arou...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

So Drake has been occupying the new penthouse suite for at least part of his time in KC. Two tour busses and a fleet of SUVs at the ready outside the past few nights. I've heard the same rumors about him staying at the Fontaine, along with fan videos of him at both Cap Grille and Monarch Room. What...
