Re: New Downtown YMCA

Could've been a nice building for the UMKC peforming arts development, not too far from the Folly, Music Hall and streetcar.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Unfortunately, I doubt the neighbors would be eager to have denser development given the outcry for newer projects in Westport. If no one's complaining, then nothing's going to happen quickly.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Now that the vape store and Papa Murphy's have closed, this center is looking bleak again with only three upstairs tenants remaining. Is there any hope that Larry Sells will ever figure out how to attract and retain quality tenants?

Re: The Future of Crown Center

The plan still refers to the Hyatt Regency, so overall out of date but maybe still the general ideas are the same for the surface lots.

Re: Best Happy Hour

Westport Cafe has a great $11 steak/frites and happy hour sized steamed mussels that are amazing. Not a great place for happy hour vibe but if you're hungry the food is solid.

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

I still find it ridiculous that the Valentine Neighborhood Assn, rather than the Westport NA, is the group spearheading this - doesn't Valentine end on the north side of 39th? I get LIMITED involvement since it the development is nearby, but if they ever try to get involved in Volker development I'm...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

The Nextdoor app has a few details about the revised plan: developer has agreed to reduce the height on front/sides from 64 ft to 58 ft and back to 46 ft; reduced the number of units from 46 to 43; committed to having one parking space per bedroom and securing a long-term lease with neighboring prop...

Re: The Gallerie - 27th & Gillham Apartments and Condos

27th has been reopened between Grand and Gillham. The road diet looks nice as it goes past one of the Hallmark surface parking lots, and some trees and grass should help even more.

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

First it's too big, then traffic issues, then it doesn't fit in with the surrounding neighborhood, then it's parking and then rents are pricing people out of the area. I'm afraid the opponents aren't interesting in resolving any of these issues, but are against almost all development in the area tha...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

Just noticed this segment from Fox4 http://fox4kc.com/2017/10/13/midtown-neighbors-fight-another-large-apartment-plan/ And a quote from Mary Jo Draper, who apparently is entitled to determine who should and should not be renting in the neighborhood: "It’s hard to imagine where all the people ar...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

Another thing to note is that the majority of people complaining don't even live in the neighborhood! They don't want to have to deal with increased traffic instead of finding different travel routes, they don't want to drive past something not clad in brick and they're afraid there's not enough par...

Re: Westport

I agree. We need to show up to any public meetings and planning sessions, because the anti-anything people will show up in force. I don't expect to get everything I want, but neither should they and I think more than anything they need to understand there ARE people in the area who are for sensible ...

Re: Westport

Apparently the street vacation wasn’t part of the Westport Building Ban. It’s going back to CPC on 11/7. There’s some kind of quid pro quo where WRBL will support HKC/Vicki Noteis/Lisa Briscoe’s efforts to amend the PMAP and extend the Plaza height restrictions into Westport, in exchange for the st...

Re: Westport

The midtown area plan was developed (at least in part) by area residents - if people wanted their voices heard, they should have been involved or more vocal in the meetings, rather than forcing development guidelines through when people don't like what the plan recommended. I went to the meetings fo...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

The best I can say is I like the fountain. The next best is at least they didn't put rocking chairs in the concourse. After flying through terminal C at IAH last month where EVERY seat had access to an ipad, food/drink options and mobile device charging, this rendering looks like something done on t...
