Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

First Byron, now Tomfooleries leaving - I have to wonder if the Jack Henry building is going to be torn down for another development. Are there any other businesses left on the second and third levels? Anything other than FedEx?

Re: Plaza Residential Development

Most of the homes that are being torn down have no off-street parking, or only the 'under home' garage where neither the garage nor the driveway can accommodate a single vehicle. While I wish there was room for a shared back alley with detached garages, I don't think there's a problem with parking t...

Agreed. And if they rip out the western half of that block and put in a parking lot of the liquor store, I'll be livid.

Re: Five Light

With there being a need for new office space downtown, wonder why Cordish never ventured into a mixed use tower, especially given the incentives they were (previously) getting to help with the parking garage. Nine or ten stories for a garage with some of the spaces shared between office and resident...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte

I love this project...except for the tax incentive. But the Phase 2 that extends west of Broadway to include renovation of the Qxotic building I don't think it warranted. With the Crossroads filling in and existing buildings being renovated, development is already creeping to the fringes, and the si...

Re: Proposed tower on Plaza

Interesting article on the historic designation that Historic KC is fighting for - the church board says they are happy with the redevelopment and have never considered their church to be historic. They question the motives behind the designation of the church as historic and allude to the folks beh...

Yeah McCoy's supposed to close I believe end of the month. I wonder if Beer Kitchen and Char Bar are affected since they're all owned by the same group? Who knows, maybe someone bought the lots and is planning a mixed use tower on the spot LOL

lol i know your reddit username now. but agreed. self-serve gimmick was fun for a minute, but no substance behind the gimmick. there are an awful lot of places within a five minute walk that i would rather be, so never ended up there, even if it was "fine." I disagree - it's great to try a dozen be...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Per CityScape column, Elly's brunch cafe closed in 4800 Main building (former Board of Trade). Bummer, I liked it reasonably well and the more brunch spots (and retail off plaza) the merrier. Too bad. Article also notes that the Eat Fit Go location there closed as well, but was part of a corporate ...

I'd like to see some brewpubs/breweries in other parts of the central city - Valentine, eastern Westport, 39th Street.

On a side note, Noodles & Co has closed (or is in the process of closing) and the building where Tomfooleries is located has been sold and Byron is prepping for a going-out-of-business sale.

Re: OFFICIAL - New Downtown YMCA (former Lyric Theater)

$35 million just seems like a LOT of money - I would've liked to see this built on one of the many surface lots or East Village, with UMKC taking over the Lyric building, but there appear to have been forces against all of that. It was a lot of money 20 years ago. And how much do you think it would...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I love the development from the St Luke's Foundation, and the homes look great for all being the same layout. Not really seeing how those are two-car garages, but they mirror many of the single-family homes in West Plaza. But starting prices of $500K!?!?!?!

And Wal-mart several years ago turned into a giant consignment shop - most vendors don't get paid until their product sells. It was a huge hit to vendors who had to move product back onto their books, but a boon to Wal-mart.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

So in 2001 a 20-year TIF was established (in part) to build, maintain and/or subsidize this garage. Now we're going to tear part of it down and replace it with a low-rise department store that will likely have dedicated spaces for it's shoppers, and probably other dedicated parking if Seville become...

I really like the little courtyard between the two 5-story buildings on McGee - hope the idea is to incorporate that in with the retail buildings.

Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park

It sure was nice to have tons of people in the park last night. Seems like a permanent video display could really add something to the site. Could also be cool to get union station's 100th anniversary animation permanently installed. Since it's already animated, they'd just have to install the lamp...
