Re: We need a new airport!!!

I don't think anyone is up in arms over the loss of the fountain, but if one is built, there are plenty of other lower-cost options than one that requires pumping water up to the roof. And come 'cloud' art hanging from the ceiling would go a little ways to prevent it from looking like the inside of ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Paneled wood is going to look outdated before the airport even opens. Nothing art deco? No limestone? Maybe some Plaza-esque touches? And is the only fountain they could think of one that hangs from the ceiling and suffers from 'installation issues?' Spend a LITTLE money to keep this from looking li...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Almost impossible to tell from these poor initial renderings, but where is the awesome scallop-roof design from the preliminary images? I loved that element, and if we get a generic flat box I'll be very disappointed. I understand perhaps losing the two-story indoor fountain, but first impression i...

Re: "Tower East"

I believe the name Martini Corner came into effect when The Drop opened. They definitely had martinis. I think the Velvet Dog has them too for a bit. Martini Corner was used well before The Drop came around. When I first moved to KC in the early '90s, Velvet Dog was one of the first area bars to la...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Went to the Plaza on Sunday to run an errand and was shocked at how many people were Pokemon hunting. No wonder the Plaza has banned scooters - there were HUNDREDS of people walking around with phones (some with multiple phones) corded to an extra battery and with ear phones/buds just wandering arou...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

So Drake has been occupying the new penthouse suite for at least part of his time in KC. Two tour busses and a fleet of SUVs at the ready outside the past few nights. I've heard the same rumors about him staying at the Fontaine, along with fan videos of him at both Cap Grille and Monarch Room. What...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

They only used stock video footage of KC throughout, but Asteroid was filmed in Denver. I never understood why they didn't just set the location in Denver - the location really didn't provide any additional context to the plot unless the producers (or whoever) felt more people could relate to a Midw...

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

This would be the closest hotel to the Sprint Center (with maybe exception of new Holiday Inn Express) - it's a shame they couldn't build the hotel portion over the public single-story garage, which is only a short half-block away. We go to Zoo Bar often before event at Sprint Center and that area i...

Re: Westport Terrace at Manor Square

Hate to bring up a touchy subject, but if GE moves to 4200 Penn, wonder what kind of parking the employees will have. I'd hate to see employees take up on-street parking that retail/restaurant patrons would normally be using.

1900 SM Parkway

A friend of mine ate at a new place called The Restaurant at 1900, and I realized it's in the same building that St John is relocating to from the Plaza. I wasn't aware that the recent renovations had transformed it into office, restaurant, gallery and performing arts venue. They put together a culi...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I'm surprised that Block Real Estate Services isn't putting a retail space on street level at 47Madison on of that triangle wedge of land between Madison, Belleview, and Roanoke Parkway, and going after a drug store operator. When a monolithic property owner, like that that owns Plaza retail buildi...

And nice to see downtown getting the attention of Hyatt - maybe a Hyatt or Hyatt Regency one day?

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Gap is no longer moving to a different space - the plans 'fell through' due to lease negotiations not working out. Something doesn't sound right - the relocation had been communicated for months and at the last minute falls apart because they couldn't agree on a lease? https://www.kshb.com/news/loca...

I have a doctor in that building - a mock-up in the entryway shows exterior renovation with more contemporary finishes. Will be much better than the starkness of the current brick but nothing earth-shattering.

Re: Fringe Fest 2012 - July 19-29

Fringe, Middle of the Map, 18th/Vine Jazz Festival, several film festivals, etc., all suffer from visibility issues, and makes me worried about the new festival in Swope Park suffering the same fate. There are so many great options in the 'art' community, but too often there is no visibility unless ...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

Rumor is that The Farmhouse (RM resto) is opening a second location somewhere on 39th street. That is no longer a rumor http://m.feastmagazine.com/the-feed/kansas_city_news/article_8d51df90-8519-11e8-a30e-2791b572bfcb.html Can't wait! With all of the closings recently, this type of business is sore...
