Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

It's clear that robust rail transportation was valued less than education - Indy, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Columbus and Austin all reflect that.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

So someone paying $9 for 9 hours of parking during a workday = $45/wk. How does that compare with structured or surface lot parking options in the loop? You seem to have surmised that this change is intended to discourage full day parking in these spaces. Garage parking is available at 300 Wyandott...

Kansas City Tornados

A new minor league men's basketball team has their inaugural game tonight at Municpal. Team was supposed to be called the Buzz and had a bumblebee mascot that infringed on the Georgia Tech mascot/logo, and was changed to the Tornados after GA Tech complained to the league office. Grammarphiles shoul...

Re: 50s/Main development

I know that Community America has plans for a south Plaza branch near 51st/Main (in addition to a new branch in the Crossroads) - I guess that would be the answer.

That's a terrible idea! Drag racing is already a problem in other cities - why glamorize it even more and bring that trend to KC where it hasn't caught on (yet) as much as it has elsewhere?

Didn't the Southmoreland NA get all worked up about the last proposal for that building, even though their boundary ends on the south side of 39th?

Re: We need a new airport!!!

From the articles I read it sounds like there weren't anywhere near enough details about the design or the funding. You don't go forward on a billion dollar deal with a "trust us, it's going to be great". How bad would it look if this all fell apart in 9 months and we had to pay Edgemore ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

^Careful, chingon might call you out for stereotyping. The building comes with a large garage, won't be surprising if most drive the two blocks to Plaza. Forget it. 99% of people that live in nursing care facilities are not able to walk a block. I am not stereotyping. I have designed sites for them...

I hope they make it look nicer on the outside - such a foreboding building for such a prominent corner.

Re: Westport

The old three story apartment?!? I'm all for the BOA building going, but I'll be pretty pissed if this goes. Wonder if there are any plans for replacing it? And didn't the moratorium take effect or does it not go all the way to Main? Historic KC is gonna go nuts.

Re: OFFICIAL - Corrigan Building

I have to admit, I do like what they've done with the 'pocket park' and recessed entry behind the streetcar stop. Also like the balconies and the activity inside that will be visible after dusk. Maybe it'll be a good with the other buildings on that corner?

Re: On-going downtown development projects

$7.9 million seemed like a decent offer, just wasn't sure. Even though the building is solid, it still needs things like electrical upgrades and there is currently only one non-service elevator that breaks down weekly. Unfortunately, I see him holding on for a while longer.

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

I heard that on Up to Date, as well. Didn't they have to get height variances approved by the FAA to build the Bond bridge? i would assume any HQ2 development would feature buildings at least that tall or taller. Is the FAA variance just a formality or could building height be in jeopardy if the riv...

It's part of the reno - KC Life had been letting (more likely leasing them) the KCPD and SWAT teams practice drills in the homes for quite a few years.

Was in Dallas a couple of weeks ago - their bike share system is the one where the bikes aren't located at pre-placed stalls, you just find a bike and unlock it with the app or credit card and ditch it wherever. After seeing bikes ditched in piles or groups parked in the middle of sidewalks, I'm so ...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

It would be surprising if MAC hadn’t tried to buy the Knicks. That project is in their wheelhouse. But has KC Life renovated or sold any of their vacant properties in Valentine? They are the black hole of property management. Didn't they own the northern part of the school on SW Tfwy that's being r...
