Never really noticed how small the footprint of X Lights are until seeing from this perspective.

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

I like the mural, but the LED seems off with it only taking up a quarter of that space. Too bad it had to be scaled down, but anxious to see it in person.

Re: Westport

Went to the soft opening of Sailor Jack's (previously The Foundry) over the weekend. Tried three apps: tempura oyster mushrooms (mushrooms lost in a bit too much breading, but amazing dipping sauce), fried clams (bit too salty) and crab hushpuppies (we all agreed these were fantastic). Crab Louie is...

Re: Gondolas!

I also agree that the two endpoints need higher use locations - you're going from nowhere to nowhere, with little to no population density, development opportunity, transit connections or businesses nearby. Maybe move the gondola to end deeper in the West Bottoms or near Kemper. Or why not extend it...

Such a high-profile spot...seems too bad.

Yeah. Maybe it's a spot where they can put a drive thru somewhere in the attached garage. Wonder if Nordstrom is going to result in a store that removes the lower garage entrance next to Cap Grill.

Re: The Loretto becoming a hotel

In December 2017, the Loretto was bought by a partnership of Sunflower (the Traders building and Ambassador Hotel folks) and Cienda out of Dallas. A Cienda rep spoke to our neighborhood association about their plans to turn the Loretto into a boutique hotel and fix up the surrounding parking lot and...

Re: Westport

Apparently Shields has placed a hold on the Westport hotel project that's replacing the XO nightclub. Something about lack of community input. This is getting ridiculous with her, and that hotel proposal has been known for YEARS now. Does she expect to be able to personally take down anything that ...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

With 31st ranked nearly as high as Linwood, is it unfeasible to locate the Linwood stop a block north to make it more equidistant for transfers to buses on both 31st and Linwood? Regarding the 45th St stop, there is huge development potential on the empty lot south of QT and the need to access KCAI ...

Don't recall seeing this anywhere, but Omaha-based furniture store Hutch opening a Crossroads store in May. Exact location not mentioned.

Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)

Call 311 and file a complaint and ask others to do the same. We use it all the time in Volker (and I know others do too) - it sometimes takes a couple of calls but the issues always result in action. Maybe issuing a ticket to the owners won't have as much traction for that building as it does for si...

Re: The Future of Crown Center

Somehow I missed the news that Filling Station was opening a location in the 2460 Pershing building on the lobby level. Saw a blurb at Hallmark that there will rooftop seating, as well. The way the buildings are 'stacked' indicates that would be on top of the garden-level bump out overlooking the gr...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

I'd rather see Prospect be renamed - there's such a stigma with it (and Troost) being a dividing line, a name change would be a great opportunity to rebrand. And wasn't Prospect the epicenter of the '68 riots that happened around the time of King's murder?

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

I'm all for having the Crossroads Academy downtown, but not inclined to pay for a dedicated playground for the students. The garden, even if just in a corner, seems like a missed opportunity, and the above-ground parking garage would decimate some amazing views. I'd love to see something along the l...

So the odd-shaped, grassy lot where Grand runs into Main? The article makes it sound like there is already a parking structure under and adjacent to the site.

New arenas in Wichita, Tulsa and Des Moines, the new one in Milwaukee and refurb in Cleveland likely mean that KC will remain on the heavy rotation, rather than every year or two.

Anyone know the occupancy level of the apartments? Seems like a good way to get additional spending in the district is to build more apartments. Or a couple of hotels.

Saw this on KSHB last night, but missed the part about plans for a local grocery store at 40th/Main. Old Thriftway, maybe?
