Re: We need a new airport!!!

A lady rang my door bell last night and asked if I knew 'what was going on with the airport.' I asked 'you mean the single terminal proposal?' She said she was surprised because everyone she'd spoken to in the neighborhood (Volker) either didn't know about it or was rude. She said a couple of people...

Re: Streetcar Opposition

A lady from SmartKC was interviewed on a news segment last night about how the streetcar ballot process is too burdensome, yet at no point in the newscast did they mention why the rules are the way they are. http://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/kansas-city-streetcar-looks-to-expand-south-voter-ballot...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I remember reading in a couple of places that Nike had initially intended for the store to be an outlet, but were told no. Sounds like they did the bare minimum to keep it from being an actual outlet. The day they start letting in outlets - even the likes ofBanana Republic, J Crew, Off 5th or Crate ...

Re: favorite under-the-radar mexican places in the kansas city area?

Has anyone ever gone to Jarocho's seafood? They have a location on Kansas Ave in KCK and another around 131st in Leawood. I've heard four different people over the past few days raving about their food. The outside of the KCK spot is a little off-putting for a place I would order seafood, but most g...

Re: favorite under-the-radar mexican places in the kansas city area?

Anyone care for Taco Republic? I've been there 2 or 3 times in the last year, or so, and have enjoyed the variety of street tacos and their cheese/beef skillet appetizer thing. Not a fan of Taco Republic - I find their street tacos to be pretty dull, overpriced and lacking flavor. That said, I love...

Re: Poll: Does the Plaza need a drastic change, some change or on the right path?

Just curious - what sort of things would have broader appeal than just a shopping/restaurant district? I also like the idea of turning Nicholls Rd into a pedestrian mall, but think people would be livid that a couple dozen parking spaces would disappear. I wish they would find a way to put a real pl...

Re: Westport

I'm not sure that any solution that requires a change in the way bars currently do business has been explored. They're boxed into this vacation idea because nobody wants to discuss whether the festival permit is a huge part of the problem - there's too much money to be made. Has anyone seen any pro...

pew-pew-pew! http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article161646168.html if this is happening while the streets are already blocked off, what makes the westport business league thinks metal detectors or wands will prevent it (or even reduce it) when they "own" the street? And it does...

I'm also really shocked no one has taken on the Copaken lot and connected to Sprint Center in the same way the Hilton works with Centurylink in Omaha or the Omni with Philips/CNN in Atlanta. To me, that would be the best spot for a Four Light hotel/condo tower.

Re: OFFICIAL: Penn Valley Park (Ideas+redeveloment)

I respectfully disagree. Reducing Broadway to one lane would just funnel more traffic to Main or SW Trfwy, which are even greater barriers to making the park accessible to neighborhoods. As long as Broadway goes thru the park, and as long as there are no left turns on SB SW Trfy people will still st...

Re: Westport

This was everywhere from what I could tell - Sun Fresh, parking garage, surface lot east of Char Bar, etc. I'm sure it'll get neighbors pissed off since people will park on the streets to save $5, but when construction starts on the BOA apartments and the hotel on the XO property, it's time to start...

Re: The Loretto becoming a hotel

I found two of the houses adjacent to the Loretto on the auction site and scheduled to go up on Friday - there are about eight houses next to the main property owned by the same entity. A local business owner from 39th called about the Loretto and couldn't find any details, so maybe the rest were in...

Was in Westport Saturday night and surprised to see $5 parking fees implemented everywhere, which I'm fine with. On a local newscast Sunday morning, though, there were several people interviewed who were incensed and promised to never go to Westport again. LOL

Re: The Loretto becoming a hotel

Or is there a better chance of selling at auction on the steps of the courthouse? I'm worried about some absentee owner sitting on the properties without spending any money on keeping them from falling into disrepair.
