Re: Westport

The old Thriftway near Westport/Main has some construction activity. Is it just prepping to lease or is there a tenant signed up? Last I had hear some sort of grocery store was moving in however the building was in worse shape than they thought. I heard the same - some pseudo-health food store with...

Re: Clay Chastain coming back with light rail

Maybe this has already been discussed, but is Clay Chastain really back with another proposal? Of course it includes a gondola: http://cityclerk.kcmo.org/LiveWeb/Documents/Document.aspx?q=5o3Yd5EsEswtHMouWa90rV5Y0L0rSBp6JpReORfm1qrkRnZ9S5rvSuAm1K4tQHZ7 Sweet Baby Jesus, what's wrong with this man?!?

Houses along Westport road next to Mike's Liquor also were knocked down this week. They were formerly businesses, but had been closed.
Rumor is that Mike's Liquor is building on that lot.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

It's amazing the variation in costs of BRT:
$40+million for new 1.8 mile BRT (plus upgrades to existing line) in Reno
$53+million for new 5.8 mile BRT in Spokane
$26+million for new 16 mile BRT in Albany

I heard on the radio that the extension wasn't selected to receive federal funds this round. What are next steps?

Re: West Plaza

I'm pretty sure that this is the proposal that the surrounding neighborhoods gave the thumbs-down to and the owners weren't sure what direction to go after that. I can't remember where I read it, though.

Re: Daycare Options

I would like to plug Notre Dame de Sion for its new(ish) Petite program, as well as Montessori Pre-K. Both at the Hyde Park lower school campus. Great community and seemingly a little under-the-radar due to the relative newness of the program. Sion is co-ed from Petite through 8th grade. Since our ...

Re: Menards to Village East

While I personally prefer Schlitterbahn over Oceans of Fun, I don't expect it to survive. But wouldn't it be prudent to leave the property intact to make it more attractive to a different water park company? I guess I haven't moved on from the initial proposal for a true resort with tree house bunga...

Re: Daycare Options

We did 3 years at the YMCA in midtown. It's a good program and it seems like everyone who went there got into AL. It's very diverse and welcoming of all walks of life. I also liked it cause I could use a credit card so what I would do is get a new credit card every 6 months or so when I hit the spe...

Re: On-going downtown development projects

Why was she the one to do this? It seems in city councilpeople should be fighting to keep our development tools in place. I don’t care much what her motive is, it’s the right thing to do and how the two mayoral candidates respond will determine my vote in June. "Jolie Justus supports unlimited give...

Daycare Options

My husband and I have a 10-month old boy and starting to look at options for daycare in the Fall. Right now we have a nanny come to our house two days a week - we love her, but nanny taxes, quarterly taxes and other fees are killing us. I've done some high-level looks at Central Methodist, Willow Wo...

Re: Next Mayor 2019

I don't like him arbitrarily determining what is to be considered affordable housing - that just seems like pandering. And maybe there's more to it than I'm reading, but to use the sales tax meant for east side revitalization for housing in other parts of the city doesn't sit well with me.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Families are not gonna want to go to a theater downtown because of one big issue and that is parking. We do love the Union Station theater, its usually empty and they have lots of family friendly movies for a great price Parking issues for two theatres along the streetcar line? I think we've proven...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Good opportunity to rehab the old Plaza Theater! Only half joking - would love to see it happen if there is even a fraction of the original theater space and architectural detail left. I don't see this as a huge loss - these theaters took up a ton of space and were empty a lot of the time. Also not...

Any details from the Crab District podcast? I feel like an elitist, but I don't fuck around with seafood (or 'krab') at places like that and would like to know what I'm missing.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I hope another company (NOT Regal!) will take over the space in the old Seville Square building - there's no reason a cinema couldn't be profitable there with the right management. I'm really going to miss being able to decide to go to a movie at the last minute, have covered parking during inclemen...

After experiencing the Funkhouser years, as well as someone in an unmentioned higher office, I think I'm fine with candidates having a political background.
