Re: We need a new airport!!!

They only technically need the largest 3 airlines in order to move forward with the operating agreement because those three airlines have over 66% of the passenger traffic at KCI. In business session today, Klein stated they want to get 5 airlines to sign the operating agreement before they move for...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Also, to clarify, the airlines are fine with the airport design and cost. They are discussing how the costs for baggage handling fees will be allocated among themselves. It is a tiny, tiny portion of the project costs for the airport, but a significant amount for the two airlines. The two airlines h...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Its possible some of those airline could pull out, I guess. All other airlines, except those two, submitted letters today in support of the airport's current cost and design estimates. (EDIT: which is why it seems like the smaller two airlines are using the larger airport project costs as a red herr...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

And it should be noted- any profit they turn on these properties (less developer fees, etc) goes towards either additional development in the neighborhood or to the St. Luke's Foundation to fund hospital activity...which is a good thing and was one of the reasons the houses were given to St. Luke's ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Its a valid question and I don't pretend to actually have an answer, but I can see how they may just want to build new at this point in the process. In the past, they rehabbed and built houses/townhomes at lower price points. Now they are doing their high end stuff. They are starting at 45th street ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I'm watching the airport committee currently (still ongoing) and this most recent issue doesn't sound like it has anything to do with Edgemoor or the city and is totally an internal dispute among the airlines. It sounds like two budget airlines (Spirit & Allegiant) are trying to get themselves a bet...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I'm actually surprised St. Lukes is building single family houses. I would have expected that the parcels they owned would have been redeveloped as multi-family buildings. Why demolish single family houses to just build single family houses? Wouldn't it just be easier to remodel the current houses?...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Xroads looks to be getting a couple more grocers. A couple bookstores have opened up this year. A 'couple more' grocers? Does crossroads have any since The Sundry moved? What new ones are coming? I just saw DaveKCMO's post about the Wine Shop + Bar on Oak, so I suppose that will be one in the neigh...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

While I am definitely fond of the bookstore/coffee/booze shops that have opened downtown, I would still love to see a flagship (large?) bookstore open.

How many car crashes typically involve injuries? (which is what they were talking about and I guess is what i should have asked in the beginning)

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Doesn't this still have a two-tiered arrival/departure roadway? Meaning, if you don't want to walk across the 20 uncovered feet on the level shown in the rendering, you could simply cross the street on the lower level and take an escalator/elevator upstairs?

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

Does anyone else see the irony in this? School district owns an old, dilapidated building that is a financial liability and they want to sell it. The sale is only possible with the use of incentives that redirected taxes away from the school district. City (or whatever statutory agency) won't approv...

Quinton Lucas arrested on suspicion of DUI last night in Lawrence Reached Friday morning, Lucas said he had been drinking and decided he shouldn’t drive back to Kansas City. But, he said, he never moved his vehicle from the public spot it was parked in. He said he “dozed off” in his car. “I took th...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

According to a Business Journal article on endangered buildings the Christian Scientist church is to be torn down and replaced with a 13 story office tower. Would be a loss for the human scale along 47th and create a blocky wall on the north side. I wonder if they got this wrong and meant there is ...
