Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

The what on the far north? If you could create a four block super Between 8th and I-70 there’s no buildings other than 720 Main on the south end. There’s no buildings on the northern edge West of Wyandotte between 6th and 7th just south of the gas station there is a historic building. I believe it ...

If churches served cocktails, more people would attend.
Drop the god stuff and serve brunch and I’ll be there every Sunday morning.
Perhaps that's what we can use abandoned churches for. Sunday brunch halls.

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

https://i.imgur.com/BDigFOt.jpg This is probably the most detailed depiction of this scheme I've come across. Notice that they have to intrude upon freeway space here, even after demolishing both the flashcube and 609 central. Assuming the flashcube is kept, the only way this plan could even be pla...

Can we just tear that building down and put the new ballpark there instead? Problem solved.
That area should never have a ballpark. A more beneficial fantasy would be returning the grid to how it was before urban renewal, complete with the junction

Like everyone else, I'm not liking the look of these renderings. Not going to be good for KC's national image.

Re: Google Maps just did another satellite view update for KC

I know NYC and London have gotten their 3d model updated recently, at least in their cores. I think they update every 5 years, which means kc won't be due until next year, since the imagery shows the 2014 king tut exhibit on the front of union station

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

This is a student project from the Kansas City Design Center, a studio which is affiliated with KU and KSU's architecture schools. That model of the city is actually visible through their storefront on baltimore IIRC. I'd recommend looking in at it if it's still there

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

I'm not a fan of the BOE building, but I think it would be far more valuable to redevelop it than demolish it. They could even market it as being an example of "historic mid century modernism" or something. I also think part of the reason the building doesn't look great is that it's really dirty and...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

Several years ago, NBC had the made-for-TV movie "Asteroid." An asteroid is headed for Kansas City. It hits the "Freeman Dam", causing water to flow down the mountain and flood downtown Kansas City (downtown Denver shown). There was major damage at "3rd & Olive" and at "24th and Market Street". To ...

“We feel an upscale-type product would resonate well.”
“We try to fit with the local architecture,” Wedemeier said. “I feel strongly the end result will be something Kansas City will be proud of.”
Lies. It's all lies.

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

If the hotel only takes up a little of the block, I'd be fully in support, as long as they let others develop on it. We need more blocks that go out to the street and have multiple structures.

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel

I'm not seeing anything in the document about the project occupying the entire block. Is it possible it's only taking up a corner? I mean, the current structure doesn't even take up a third of the site

Cool pictures in the lobby. There are others but I didn't want to be too much of a bother. https://i.imgur.com/9NjBxbf.jpg Apparently this is the picture that inspired the owner to hunt down the entrance canopy, which had been thrown in a junk yard during the 70s remodel https://i.imgur.com/u3ddI11....
