Re: City Center Square for sale

Confused by the whole lightwell thing, especially since it's spelled out on signs in the rendering. I hope it doesn't mean they're getting rid of the space frames. They're probably the coolest aspect of the building.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

You have this backwards. Older styles of ornamentation existed because of a lack of technology. Not really. If anything technology produced more ornament. Mass produced terra cotta is a good example, as is cast iron latticwork like that found in New Orleans, or the metal elements of the Chrysler an...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Loads of buildings have features or designs that add significantly to the budget. Look at Gehry buildings, or Calatrava's, or even Safdie's. The Kauffman Center would've been a lot cheaper without those curves. Not all buildings are on a super tight budget, and can totally afford to experiment, and ...

I don't know why we need height?
Density? I thought that's what this forum was all about.

Disagree. Just fill the fucking parking lots.
We need some height though. No reason some of those lots can't have tall buildings on them. Especially in the middle of the loop.

Let's hope this is just the beginning. We need something that really alters the skyline profile like the 80s towers did.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Again, that ornament is so expensive because the industries it required were dismantled. Ideally, some bold developers and architects would push for new systems of ornament, start a trend, and cause the stuff to come back into demand, in the same way the Bauhaus designers had to convince their clien...

I went in that Winsteads once. It was horribly slow for as dead as they were. They didn't keep up with what went in around them.

This will be the most significant development in this city's history. I, for one, welcome our food overlord, and eagerly anticipate this new era of enlightenment.

I've seen it without the captions on the library site before it went down. There are a few other pictures like it taken from the old city hall. I love them because they look like they could've been taken in london, with all the spires and smog

Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park

Why not just have an entry directly into the museum from the north at a lower grade? Expand the museum to the area directly to the north of the memorial. That could still happen in my design. I didn't include anything like that because I couldn't find any info on how deep the museum complex goes, a...

Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park

I threw together a massing model of the memorial and placed it at the elevation noted on the plans I shared earlier, and then created my own take on the north lawn. The current stairs, if continued down uninterrupted, wouldn't even come close to reaching Pershing. Instead of breaking it up with land...

Part of it was also that decoration lost popularity amongst architects in favor of the minimal International Style, so all the industries that were producing affordable stonework, terra cotta, etc quickly vanished from lack of demand

We already have loads of different venues downtown for concerts. What advantage would performing in a baseball stadium provide over any if those?
