Re: Troost developments

Is it possible the details were taken off to be restored? When the boley building got restored I think they ended up removing almost the entire facade before cleaning reattaching it

What's the status of this place? Sitting as a ruin? Getting demoed? Haven't had a chance to go past it lately

This looks cool, but what exactly is futuristic about it? Luxury projects like this have been built all over the world for years.
Remember, the drury inn by city hall is being described as fitting into kansas city's architecture. They'll say anything.

That's a shame. At least they didn't tear down the existing building first.

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte

The colored renderings look like absolute trash.(like Dreary In). However, the white renderings on the architects website actually look really nice. The hotel looks like the convention hotel from the east, the Center from the south, and somethinf complete unique from the west. The architect's drawi...

Re: The Junction Before and After, North Loop Removal

Also, remember that new land created by the loop removal would be essentially an extension of the already active river market. It would improve that area's appeal, removing its greatest physical constraints and letting it expand south. Hopefully by the time that happens the north loop landbankers wi...

Finally found a picture clearly showing the yellow/white color scheme. It's from this set of pictures on the UMKC library site.

Very interesting stuff from the 70s and 80s. Lots of aerial shots.

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

I wrote this on the flashcube thread but I'm just gonna leave it here where it's also relevant. https://i.imgur.com/BDigFOt.jpg This is probably the most detailed depiction of this scheme I've come across. Notice that they have to intrude upon freeway space here, even after demolishing both the flas...

Re: New Downtown YMCA

Looks like they're planning on saving more of the facade than originally. I actually kinda like the idea of opening up the west side with big windows between the pilasters. https://i.imgur.com/bJpjI1T.jpg https://i.imgur.com/LfdrJSz.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TmxhH5L.png https://i.imgur.com/tqEQoDS.png...

The idea was to utilize existing downtown theaters for the school rather than need to build this kind of space.
Seems like the Lyric would be the perfect building for something like that, but instead it's being bulldozed

https://gizmodo.com/6-freeway-removals-that-changed-their-cities-forever-1548314937 Okay, you’re thinking, but where do all the cars go? It turns out that when you take out a high-occupancy freeway it doesn’t turn the surface streets into the equivalent of the Autobahn. A theory called “induced dema...

Re: The Junction Before and After

Lots of studies have been made that point to the conclusion that more roads don't lead to better traffic, but often the opposite. Honestly, what would probably benefit downtown the most is if all the urban freeways were removed. People adapt and find new routes. Of course, it wouldn't go over very w...

Re: The Junction Before and After

Given in the core of the 1970s freeway era an exit came out with direct access to this area, I don’t see that as holding water. It was a prime car-centric building area and it never did even when towers went up a few blocks south. I think it’s because the bank owners saw more value in it for parkin...
