Re: Hotel Overbuilding?

"The sheer number of hotels in this city produces confusion and chaos. One cannot find food or drink, for every establishment is a hotel. The lost tourist can wonder for miles without seeing anything else. Eventually, panic sets in. 'Why are there so many hotels??', you may ask. The truth, however t...

Re: Restoring Residential Density

Honestly, I think we should be aiming for as high a density as possible. There are so many factors working to keep the city from becoming dense that any compromise would be setting us back

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

If they're going to be spending that much on a museum, it should be the WWI museum. Imagine what they could do with it!

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

For perspective, the cost of the 2006 WWI Museum was $102 million. They want roughly the same amount of money for the Arabia as a national war museum.

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

Interesting modern architecture generally requires expensive materials and/or expensive forms. As the evolution of this project has so dramatically demonstrated, once you strip those away, all that's left is a box.

Re: OFFICIAL - Power & Light Apartments

Somewhat off topic, but I really wish the tower's lobby had a more active use. 909 Walnut has the right idea. The firm also plans to create a “boutique bar” in underused lobby space. “The main level gets almost no use,” he said. “We want it to have a small and private kind of exclusive feel. First a...

Re: Oak Tower

The 1928 design with the twin building looks like it may have been based loosely off the other Bell Telephone Building in St. Louis, which was built in 1926. Bell certainly had a corporate style!

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

I too mourn the loss of the water and roof. The original design, while not the most inspiring to me (I think I liked AECOM's the best) was still far more interesting than the current plan. HOWEVER I see the airport like the convention hotel. They both could be more impressive, sure, but they still s...
