Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I am a little confused and curious by what you meant in your last sentence though rxlexi? Sorry I agree that was poorly worded. Was trying to say that I wish the more vocal NIMBY/Save Our Plaza folks would be up in arms about ugly rehabs, crappy plaza facades, dying street trees, hideous parking lo...

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

This building is really coming together. I also love the tan brick; reminds me of Milwaukee - Cream City!

It's solid, industrial and modern at once. Different but fits into the area well, IMO.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

About that building reno on the ne corner of Cleaver & Main. They took a boring modern building and made it more ugly. It now looks like a postwar housing project. Reminds me of Quality Hill towers. Agree, so bad. Right up there with the Country Club Bank rehab of the office building on Ward Parkwa...

This looks great. Didn't even realize that coffee shop was there. Will check it out soon.

And this also reminds me to make it to Splitlog Coffee on Strawberry Hill soon too, another on my hitlist.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

You're not going to find a lot of luxury, high end extended stay hotels. Not in KC, anyway.
Fair point, would in fact prefer that this was a conventional hotel myself.

SHS moving from Crossroads to Westport: https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2018/10/17/sullivan-higdon-sink-westport-headquarters-move.html Former Gould Evans space. Nowhere to park in the Crossroads! People won't take the bus or carpool even if you pay them! Actually seems like it should be...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I agree Home2 is fine at 20th/Main, though again the design could have been better. I think in this neighborhood, however, which is surrounded by some of the higher end residential (Walnuts, Kirkwood, Sulgrave, Loose/Sunset Hill) and commercial space in the region, and a quickly improving south Main...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

RE: Element hotel at Omaha Midtown Crossing - looked it up and I agree, I think that would go over much better and make sense in that location. I don't disagree with the neighborhood for wanting something a notch above a Home2. The rest of that south Main strip has been moving upscale pretty effecti...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

After reading the article, it sounds like the complaints re: south plaza hotel are really more about the shitty architecture and low-rent nature of a Home2 at this location. Which makes a fair amount of sense. The developer did attempt to dress it up with some brick veneer, etc. but is essentially t...

Re: Westport

Gould Evans move seems like an unfortunate use of that building, relative to the retail build-out that was previously discussed. That end of Pennsylvania could use more energy, and with St. Luke's vacating that office space it seemed like a good opportunity to switch to a more active use on the quie...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

Any hope they could keep the Steamer's name? That would be awesome. Or any name, as opposed to what seems like the very lame trend for most new MLS teams to be "FC (city name)". I think I am one of the very few that is bothered by this. I like cheesy, fun american sports branding with diverse names,...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

we have plenty of space in downtown west for this thing (unfortunately). Yep, that area west of Union Station (or just downtown west, in general) is definitely not "prime land". It is quite empty, and the interchange there now is essentially wasted space. Something like this stadium would be a mass...

Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List

Ah, the sweet irony of the man made famous by touring "diners, drive-ins, and dives" opening a huge restaurant on the Live block in partnership with his sleek corporate overlords, Cordish. That being said, I'll check it out and hope it is a success. That space needs something solid. I'm probably the...

Re: Keystone Innovation District

Yeah, this could become something interesting but right now sounds like vapor and buzzwords. Would like to see something more concrete; downtown could use an infusion of STEM space. Probably the best example of a successful "innovation district" in the region is CORTEX in midtown STL. However, it ha...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Not trying to hijack the thread, but every time I see the beautiful interior of the Mainstreet theater I get depressed that hometown team AMC absolutely nailed the renovation, then sold it, and left downtown. And Alamo moved right in, changing hardly anything, with a lower-rent experience. That said...

Re: Brookside

Thinking about the UCB development at 65th/Paseo, I wonder if we're getting to a point where developers are looking at the area surrounding the Landing as a long term play? If mall ownership changes hands with experienced, deep pockets, it could be a game changer for the area. Whether a heavy rehab ...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Wow, potential plan for 520 E Armour looks great. Can't tell from those images if ground floor retail is planned but I certainly hope so - that stretch of Armour desperately needs additional retail to really come alive, IMO, even with the planned space at Armour/Troost. Love the scale and what looks...

I think this looks fantastic - great addition to the xroads and a nice piece of regional architecture. As always, would like to have seen it significantly taller (with more units added right in the heart of xroads), but very happy with the dynamic design. I am surprised that the majority of units wi...

I love this development as well - a quiet win for downtown. Attractive building with popular, small apartments, local coffee/bar tenant with a nice patio on once-quiet sidewalk, and wider than expected variety of local goods. Wedged between two hip hotels in the middle of the CBD. Went yesterday for...

Staying on the complete streets subject, the lane reduction design along broadway looks very pedestrian friendly around the Broadway/Westport Rd intersection. https://twitter.com/BetterBlockKC/statu ... 1567602690 http://kcmo.gov/planning/midtown-complete-streets-plan/ Wow, that concept rendering o...
