The Star is only interested in buzzwords like gentrification and fomenting animosity and distrust.

And parking! Don't forget about parking!

Re: The KC City Flag

I was just thinking about this again the other day. With the current wave of KC pride, I think this would be a worthwhile endeavor to recreate the flag and make it something people are proud to adorn ....also Chicago city flag. I agree. This really needs to happen, and now is the right time, especi...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

the cardinals have played in a non-downtown stadium for more years than they have ever been downtown, including a non-downtown busch stadium....for decades longer than the royals have even been in kansas city. <rolls eyes> To highlander's point, Busch II opened in what, 1966? Essentially, the cards...

Re: beer.

Went to Stockyards Brewing on Sunday. Really cool place and the beers were good too. I liked how they kept it almost original from the old steakhouse. So far I have been to 4 KC Breweries in the past few years on my visits to KC. Cinder Block, Big Rip, Boulevard, and now Stockyards. Haven't had a b...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper

Are you talking about the BBQ? I think the move to Labor Day weekend was a big mistake. It seemed the crowd Friday night was about half what it was last year. Either people were out of town, or there was too much else going on. The speedway location isn't horrible. There is plenty of room. But it l...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Personally, I think you set the vote and make sure the language is right and election is right. Make it say, "Can the Midtown TDD (boundaries) vote to tax themselves to expand the streetcar? No taxes will be collected outside the district for this project and no city funds will be used for its...

Has anyone confirmed that "Grad School" going in to Busy Bee space is the same outfit as Springfield?

I really dig the Grad School in Springfield and something similar would be a perfect fit in that spot.

Right, it's not that these people exist, every city has them. It's that our newspaper will write a front page story about it that makes KC looks provincial.

Bingo. Frustrating.

Re: KC Bike share

Park City UT started an electric bike system. Would be good for assist but imagine it's high cost maintenance... http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8656 ... ation.html No doubt high cost but this is a great idea to get more people out there cycling, especially in hilly cities like KC. Hopefully wil...

Re: Nature’s Own Full-Service Grocer Opens In River Market

I loved the Nature's Own on 43/Main, and as a longtime (now former) Southmoreland resident and occasional vegetarian it came through for basics many times over the years. Little space, and an understandably small selection, but the world would be a better place if every neighborhood had such a corne...

Re: KC Star building redevelopment

Has there ever been a thought of doing a gallery in residence program for unused street retail space downtown? I know it's harder than it sounds and would take an endowment from someone and an expectation that land owners would charge only a nominal rent. But I always thought it would be good gover...

Why don't we petition for an arts tax to pay for the new UMKC conservatory and arts development at JCCC? I wonder what the requirements of the petition are. A petition for something positive, rather than a negative attack campaign on development throughout the city? Brilliant! I agree that in theor...

Yep. That was a great space. So sad when it was leased to a law firm - the end of a long restaurant/entertainment run.

Re: Brewpubs

I really like the scale of the operation, I think that is what KC doesn't have; A large scale brew pub in a central location like Wynkoops or Free State. Gordon Biersch is the only thing close. As mentioned, I think McCoy's especially, and Brewery Emperial to a lesser degree (size/scale/more hipste...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Quick FYI - Burrito Bros in City Market has extended evening hours to 8:00 PM Tues - Sat.

Check them out and support more dinner options within the market!

Would still love to get a point where the majority of market vendors have evening hours, even if limited.

Re: Brewpubs

Brewery Emperial and McCoy's have this reasonably well covered, I think. Both have good beer and good to very good food at reasonable prices, nice patios, etc. I'm not sure that the "brewpub" genre is as desirable as it once was - there are too many places that serve both solid food and lo...

Yep, Kaldi open until 8 Thurs - Sat I think. There is of course Thou Mayest as well. Haven't tried the new Spokes yet but they may become another option.

Was REALLY hoping the new Roasterie in Corrigan Station would have "normal" coffee shop hours, or closer at least. Closes at 6. Boo.

Re: Hotel Phillips to get multimillion dollar freshing up

FYI - Kilo Charlie has reduced their evening hours; they now close at 4:00 PM. Typical. I enjoyed espressos and nitros there on several occasions after work and was usually the only person there. The space is very pretty, with a big window into the gorgeous, redesigned lobby. Bummer.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

i dont think Rye on the plaza is an effort to entice JoCo residents to go to the Plaza. (1) JoCo presence on the plaza is already quite strong and probably isn't hurt or helped by Rye. (2) the plaza is a super-regional destination so it's probably more about attracting or keeping the MO/KS/IA/NE/AR...
