Re: Bike Lanes

On another cycling related topic - has anyone heard the latest on the Rock Island trail from sports complex out toward the Katy?

We're getting very close to finally have the full-length, cross state Katy Trail that was envisioned years ago - hoping that final piece is still moving forward smoothly.

Re: Bike Lanes

In case you are not aware, Paseo is currently in the planning stages for just this type of bikeway. http://kcmo.gov/publicworks/bikekc/projects/ From what I have heard, church leaders in the area along the Paseo are opposed to such a project. I was not aware, thanks for the link. However, that soun...

Re: Bike Lanes

Drove paseo this week and imagined how cool a bike track would be ...be like a bike superhighway to anywhere I would ever want to go on a bike. This is actually an awesome idea. At least, the kind of thinking that I'd like to see applied to the east side. Paseo is beautiful, wide enough that you co...

Re: The Future of Crown Center

What is hurting KC is there is very little corporate presence downtown. Hell, there is very little corporate presence in all of metro KC anymore. While most jobs are in suburban office parks, KC is just not a HQ town anymore. Agree with this, and it's a scary thought going forward. Over the next 10...

Re: The Future of Crown Center

Airbnb still has issues with consistency, and also can't handle the type of large room blocks often necessary for events or conferences. It is not ideal for business travel, nor for cities and neighbors in major affected areas, like the New Orleans example given. And don't underestimate the value so...

Re: North Kansas City

Yes there is obviously a fair amount of residential within NKC city limits, most impressively Northgate Village's new urbanism across from Macken Park. But there is little if any residential along Armour or Swift in/near the heart of downtown NKC, and plenty of lots and attractive old warehouse spac...

Re: Six Light

I’m neither plugged in or an important figure in KC and I probably live a drastically different lifestyle than most of you. I can’t even be doxed meaningfully. My lack of importance can make this forum super depressing for me sometimes. I’m not even sure why I’m interested in this stuff especially ...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I hope the lot south of the Kauffman PAC ends up as something worthwhile but knowing the absurdity of KC it will stay a grass lot for the next decade+ I wish we knew the current ownership. The lots around the PAC, as the connecting tissue with the xroads, could still be home to some great projects....

There will always be somebody prettier in the country in some aspect...losing battle. While true, I disagree with your implication that comparing ourselves to other cities is fruitless. Not talking about LA, Seattle, Chicago here, but Nashville, Denver, Minny, Indy, Austin. These are midsize, centr...

Re: Three Light

Nashville is most certainly booming. A city with leadership that envisions the region as growing into something "more" than it has been traditionally. Looking to compete with much larger SE competitors and doing so reasonably successfully thus far. KC could use some of their moxie, and job...

Re: P&L District: 12th & Main Site Proposal

I keep telling our director of leasing I'd love to see a great Mexican place go in there. I think for anyone local, it's a bit intimidating because it's a raw space. Dirt floors and a blank space, so the cost to buildout may be too much for anyone besides a national chain with deep pockets and the ...

I think we need to take a page from Memphis and build a large downtown pyramid Bass Pro on the river:

Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)

Vague but cool idea, and if nothing else happens but the renovation of the Heim warehouse that is still a big win. And, a great example of "buying local" translating directly into increased investment in KC. Reiger makes good stuff and it would be nice to see this turn into a public destin...

Re: Homogenization of KC

My two cents is that we have done a very poor job developing/sharing what is "unique" about KC among American cities. I am not worried at all about "protecting" anything, rather, investing in/pushing/developing those aspects unique to our culture/sense of place. This includes our...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Also on NPR, Gerend noted that lanes, stops, and fares are all up in the air at this point. He also noted that 39th street is the highest east-west bus route in the city. Hopefully, a route from the east side to KU Med on 39th is in our future. I don't like hearing that fares are up in the air. KC ...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

You know all we really need to do here is dig a massive underground garage and then build the worlds tallest fountain on top. Only half kidding, it would be awesome! Instant KC icon right in the heart of downtown. Realistically if at all possible it would be great if the design could incorporate the...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

Something needs to change at Barney Allis Plaza, glad it is seriously being discussed. It's an attractive site and could be a centerpiece for the convention district downtown, despite the Bartle Hall wall along the west side. I don't want to see just a big open lawn here. Ideally there will be progr...

Re: Troost developments

MAC would have included the Marquette building in the development plan, but they don't own that one either. It is very sad this is an Abnos building - it's always been quite attractive and adds significantly to the historic feel and scale of Armour Blvd here. Am curious what MAC thinks of this situ...

I ate there a bunch of times shortly after they opened. I thought it was quite good at the time, although it's no surprise that it trended downward after Dalzell got run out of town. My sole (relatively) recent visit wasn't terrible, but wasn't really up to par either. Too bad. Agreed. Went all the...

Re: Six Light

We wouldn’t buy a lot and build a new glassy modern building in the crossroads. Bummer. :) I hope to see companies/investors other than Cordish get involved in new-build high-rise residential sooner than later. I'll welcome all the Light towers we can get but additional players are needed if KC is ...
