Re: Xroads James Beard District

Looking forward to the new MS concept, and still enjoy Extra Virgin. Extremely disappointing that the prominent old corner space will be used for "events".

We've gotta be approaching peak "event space" in the xroads, right?

Re: Freshwater - Midtown

I had dinner at Revival at the Hotel Frederick in Boonville a few weeks ago and spoke with Chef Davis about his return to the Freshwater concept. He said he felt like he really had "something special" going on in that space specifically, was on a roll, and wanted to capture that vibe again...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

This is the first I've heard of the Nordstrom/Capital/Cinemark rumors but that development would be perfect and makes all kinds of sense.

Here's hoping, would be a great shift for the plaza. It would be nice to maintain a smaller, more upscale theater or live performance venue, however.

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

FYI - here is the STL proposal. Not sure how feasible but I really dig it. Proposes using the empty AT&T building downtown for phase 1. And eventually...gondolas! https://stlouishustle.com/ https://media.bizj.us/view/img/10762641/hustle-amazon-rfp-response-open.pdf Are we anticipating being able...

Justus Drugstore in Smithville is my personal "special occasion" fave, easily.

Also will second Krokstromm on Broadway.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I can't imagine going to a design meeting of a billion dollar facility and my input is electrical outlets. So is Kansas City though I understand what you're saying about bringing bigger ideas, but small touches like outlets are a necessity, and frankly "$1 billion" is chump change for a g...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Ugh. That reminds me of the perfectly nice apartment building (probably pre-1900 and not a common architectural design in KC) on 17th Street that was torn down for parking/staging for the construction of the Kauffman Center. Yep. I haven't forgotten about that one. Really changed the character of t...

Re: Unbuilt KC

Despite the utterly absurd debacle that was the West Edge construction process, and the loss of a potentially very attractive Sofdie design, it's worth noting that overall the West Edge has been a hugely positive addition to the Plaza, IMO. First, the original southern building, opened as Hotel Sore...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Also want to add, I flew out of KCI again last Tuesday, 12:50 PM flight on SW. Arrived an hour early. As usual, both nearby circle lots were full, as was Terminal B garage. Used Valet, which was backed up into the circle road, blocking oncoming traffic and requiring security intervention to clear up...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

The other really interesting thing was that only 12% of KCI fliers comes from KCMO. I knew it would be considerably less than 50% but not that low. Is this number of fliers from KCMO proper, or MO-side metro? It's always interesting to see the insane number of JOCO plates at TSC sporting events. Re...

Re: TowerEast arts district

Glad there is finally some creative momentum east of Gillham and over to 31/Troost. Slowly but surely, it will happen. How long will we have to wait for the El Torreon to become the performance space/art venue/food hall/neighborhood center that Union Hill deserves? Man I would love to see something ...

Re: The KC City Flag

I was just thinking about this again the other day. With the current wave of KC pride, I think this would be a worthwhile endeavor to recreate the flag and make it something people are proud to adorn ....also Chicago city flag. I agree. This really needs to happen, and now is the right time, especi...

the cardinals have played in a non-downtown stadium for more years than they have ever been downtown, including a non-downtown busch stadium....for decades longer than the royals have even been in kansas city. <rolls eyes> To highlander's point, Busch II opened in what, 1966? Essentially, the cards...

Went to Stockyards Brewing on Sunday. Really cool place and the beers were good too. I liked how they kept it almost original from the old steakhouse. So far I have been to 4 KC Breweries in the past few years on my visits to KC. Cinder Block, Big Rip, Boulevard, and now Stockyards. Haven't had a b...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper

Are you talking about the BBQ? I think the move to Labor Day weekend was a big mistake. It seemed the crowd Friday night was about half what it was last year. Either people were out of town, or there was too much else going on. The speedway location isn't horrible. There is plenty of room. But it l...

Personally, I think you set the vote and make sure the language is right and election is right. Make it say, "Can the Midtown TDD (boundaries) vote to tax themselves to expand the streetcar? No taxes will be collected outside the district for this project and no city funds will be used for its...

Has anyone confirmed that "Grad School" going in to Busy Bee space is the same outfit as Springfield?

I really dig the Grad School in Springfield and something similar would be a perfect fit in that spot.

Right, it's not that these people exist, every city has them. It's that our newspaper will write a front page story about it that makes KC looks provincial.

Bingo. Frustrating.
