Re: Wonderscope, Childrens Museum to Merge

Like just about every other cultural attraction in the area, wish this was going somewhere in the core. Would be nice to see Wonderscope grow into a legit children's museum, something KC currently lacks (Rabbit Hole in NKC looks very cool too). Prairiefire Museum is another recent cultural facility ...

Re: Proposed tower on Plaza

If not a restaurant, how would you reuse it? I think the ideal use would be purchase by one of these modern day hipster churches that is currently in a former retail (or performance, aka El Torreon) space. Ex. The Cause Church just west of here at 47/Belleview. I do in fact love their big picture w...

Re: Heart of America Rapid Transit

I don't understand this desire for an overly spread-out, costly regional transit system. Certainly not rail. There will never be a truly effective solution here. Our best hope is to build out a fraction of the region as transit accessible, then focus intensely on building it up. We are in the very f...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

That occupancy data seems way low to me. A quick look at even the limited free data available via Realpage (https://www.realpage.com/explore/#/main) paints a much prettier, and likely more accurate, picture. One Light is showing 88.9% occupancy with avg. effective rent at $2.01 psf. Still a little l...

Re: KC Bike share

Couldn't pick a better time of year to roll out a new bikeshare option  That being said, I think e-bikes are a great solution for KC. IMO the city is too hilly for bike share to be super appealing for the average person between river and plaza without something like this. Having ridden a high-...

Re: beer.

I enjoy Colony and stop by often after work for an espresso and/or beer. I actually thought their beers were some of the more unique and interesting in the city. Currently has a nice low key vibe going that hope isn't blown up when they shift towards more live music with this dual concept. The silly...

Re: Troost developments

For the record, below is the Star editorial. LOL - it is silly. Bizarre and scary to me that this kind of sentiment is gaining traction in our low-cost, slow-growth midwestern city. A city without a single economic driver powerful enough to incite real gentrification. Our glittering downtown can't a...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Per CityScape column, Elly's brunch cafe closed in 4800 Main building (former Board of Trade). Bummer, I liked it reasonably well and the more brunch spots (and retail off plaza) the merrier. Too bad. Article also notes that the Eat Fit Go location there closed as well, but was part of a corporate b...

Re: KCTV5 tower.

Love the idea of creating a large scale lighting installation on the tower, per the Star article. I trust Woodfill and El Dorado to pull it off with a subtle beauty, if the financing can be arranged. Referencing the Bay Bridge lighting is perfect - would be nice to see something dynamic along those ...

Re: Light Rail Systems And Routes In Other Cities

We need Dave to give us a summary of his thoughts on The Hop. I'm mildly skeptical because its a couplet with a directional change (N/S to E/W) but I also don't really know the layout of Milwaukee. It just causes me to think of Cincy which has struggled. Agree on all points. Visited (and fell for) ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Crossroads Westside

The vacation request was on the 10/31 CPC agenda. Hasn't been that long.
Good to know this is still in process. Is a logical, attractive update to what is currently a tiny patch of unused greenspace directly in front of this development. Hope it comes to fruition.

Re: OFFICIAL - New Downtown YMCA (former Lyric Theater)

From what I've heard the owner of the business on the SW corner of 11th and Central is paying to have the west wall reconstructed in a "historic" style so that the view from his offices will be "better". Seems unfortunate because it ruins the interplay of the old and new together. Interesting if tr...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Could you imagine if Walmart went from being this small retail company to getting involved in all aspects of things related to the internet (Our Lives). There would be outrage.
Can you imagine if Walmart put a multi-thousand job satellite office in DT KC? There would be celebration :D

Amazon is putting 5000 corporate jobs in Nashville Yards development, DT Nashville. That city is on fire.

Would be incredible to see something like this in north or east loop. We have a long way to go.

Re: OFFICIAL - Grand Place (former KC Star building)

I am assuming this development will be a bit like the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco?
I don't believe the Ferry Building has the same concentration of office space that is planned here, it is more exclusively a food hall, to the best of my knowledge.

The Star has new info on this development - now named Grand Place. If it all comes together as planned, should be an amazing addition to the city.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

It took around 10 years of talking with operators, banks, etc to come up with the financial arrangement for an 800 room hotel. They barely changed the design when the brand changed. It was never going to be anything except what it is today after about 2016. Is interesting to compare this to Indy, a...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

For sure, I don't mind a flat roof, in fact generally prefer them and wish they were used more frequently on the residential side in KC. Just this particular downgrade. We had a very nice, unique design, that was silently totally removed without any pushback. I will say that I appreciate that the la...
