Re: Westport

Gould Evans move seems like an unfortunate use of that building, relative to the retail build-out that was previously discussed. That end of Pennsylvania could use more energy, and with St. Luke's vacating that office space it seemed like a good opportunity to switch to a more active use on the quie...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

Any hope they could keep the Steamer's name? That would be awesome. Or any name, as opposed to what seems like the very lame trend for most new MLS teams to be "FC (city name)". I think I am one of the very few that is bothered by this. I like cheesy, fun american sports branding with diverse names,...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

we have plenty of space in downtown west for this thing (unfortunately). Yep, that area west of Union Station (or just downtown west, in general) is definitely not "prime land". It is quite empty, and the interchange there now is essentially wasted space. Something like this stadium would be a mass...

Re: Power and Light District Official Tenant List

Ah, the sweet irony of the man made famous by touring "diners, drive-ins, and dives" opening a huge restaurant on the Live block in partnership with his sleek corporate overlords, Cordish. That being said, I'll check it out and hope it is a success. That space needs something solid. I'm probably the...

Re: Keystone Innovation District

Yeah, this could become something interesting but right now sounds like vapor and buzzwords. Would like to see something more concrete; downtown could use an infusion of STEM space. Probably the best example of a successful "innovation district" in the region is CORTEX in midtown STL. However, it ha...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Not trying to hijack the thread, but every time I see the beautiful interior of the Mainstreet theater I get depressed that hometown team AMC absolutely nailed the renovation, then sold it, and left downtown. And Alamo moved right in, changing hardly anything, with a lower-rent experience. That said...

Re: Brookside

Thinking about the UCB development at 65th/Paseo, I wonder if we're getting to a point where developers are looking at the area surrounding the Landing as a long term play? If mall ownership changes hands with experienced, deep pockets, it could be a game changer for the area. Whether a heavy rehab ...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Wow, potential plan for 520 E Armour looks great. Can't tell from those images if ground floor retail is planned but I certainly hope so - that stretch of Armour desperately needs additional retail to really come alive, IMO, even with the planned space at Armour/Troost. Love the scale and what looks...

Re: 1800 Walnut

I think this looks fantastic - great addition to the xroads and a nice piece of regional architecture. As always, would like to have seen it significantly taller (with more units added right in the heart of xroads), but very happy with the dynamic design. I am surprised that the majority of units wi...

Re: OFFICIAL - The New Yorker (Hotel Bray)

I love this development as well - a quiet win for downtown. Attractive building with popular, small apartments, local coffee/bar tenant with a nice patio on once-quiet sidewalk, and wider than expected variety of local goods. Wedged between two hip hotels in the middle of the CBD. Went yesterday for...

Staying on the complete streets subject, the lane reduction design along broadway looks very pedestrian friendly around the Broadway/Westport Rd intersection. https://twitter.com/BetterBlockKC/statu ... 1567602690 http://kcmo.gov/planning/midtown-complete-streets-plan/ Wow, that concept rendering o...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I was excited to use it, but the lead time was too long. I logged on around 5 or 5:15p - thinking I could pick it up in an hour. The earliest available pick up time was 730p. This was on a Tue or Wed, so not exactly peak time. So, make sure you plan ahead if you're doing it that way. This kind of s...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

So happy to see Sells interest reduced here, and the overall site plan seems reasonable. But the design is a little schlocky. All the colors and hats. This project really needs a TJs, Sprouts or other mid-size grocer as primary tenant. Would seem to be the only real reason to keep the existing strip...

Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)

Sundry tried. Sort of. I liked Sundry quite a bit, but as a grocer or even convenience store it just didn't work. Tiny selection, high prices. I did like the booze and prepared food, and was a decent secret brunch spot. Still hope they do well, haven't been to the Westport Commons location yet. In ...

I have seen the 3D maps of the parts of KC that are financially beneficial and those that are not. The entire Northland is not even close to paying for itself now.
Where does one find such?

an exhibit about the Ozarks in the vein of NOLA's swamps exhibit This is a great idea - would love to see something like it implemented. And while we're dreaming, I so badly wish we could have the Swope Park Boathouse back. It's unfortunate that the big zoo expansion in the 90's sprawled all the wa...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I mean the whole point of this, initially, was to be within short walking distance of the Kauffman Center to develop a symbiosis kind of like Lincoln Center/Juliard. Develop a performing arts/cultural neighborhood, of sorts. Elevate the program with a top notch new facility next to ground zero for t...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I’d love to see the largest KC university be similar to Louisville or Cindy. Ha! There are a very few of us that have been saying the same thing for years. However, there seems to be zero desire on the part of the city, state, university (most importantly) or really anyone anywhere towards making t...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Agree that "off campus but not downtown" is worst case scenario. I still think on-campus could be awesome if the project design is top-notch. UMKC campus needs more wins, and is extremely well-located. Going into the former Westport High is lame, hopefully that won't come to fruition or if so, we ar...
