Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

Yeah, I've got to think when you're inclusive of Mexico and Canada, for KC to host any game at all would be a major coup. And not likely.

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

Is there any official confirmation of the $100m aquarium project? I haven't seen or heard anything aside from this thread. While I certainly welcome the news, and I'm happy to see the zoo continuing to invest in large scale projects, as befits a metro tourism anchor, I have to say I would rather see...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Local Pig to former Winslow's space will surely be a great move for both LP and City Market. Perfect anchor for that corner. However, it is slightly disappointing that the little sliver of the East Bottoms that was starting to become a niche destination lost one of its primary, long time anchors (Lo...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Empty Block to the east of PAC is going to be a 300+ room hotel
Not sure this has been confirmed. Do we have anything solid here or just that a hotel of that size is an ideal/desired potential use?

Re: Open Spaces - Kansas City Arts Experience

Yeah, I get the go big or go home idea of hosting this major festival like the big boys, but I can't help but think the city (and attendees) would have been better served with one jam packed weekend, in one general area. Or maybe a full week, with a kickoff and closing weekend. We shall see. I hope ...

Re: Open Spaces - Kansas City Arts Experience

Definitely an ambitious undertaking, and the culmination of Sly's push towards KC as cultural capital, etc. Surprised we haven't had more discussion about this on here, or the massive failure of what coulda/shoulda been an awesome Jazz & Heritage Festival a la Nola. Worried about the length, and the...

Re: KC Riverfront Heritage Trail

The bumping of this thread made me realize something I hadn't even considered... with the I-70 construction I guess the path's connection to Kaw Point is broken for the next couple of years? Good question. Currently, one rides right past/next to the construction as you move through the West Bottoms...

Re: KC Riverfront Heritage Trail

Bringing back an older thread as I rode the Riverfront trail from the north end of Berkley Park (near the KC Crew volleyball courts) over to Kaw Point Park yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to find updated signage and a newer connection (beneath Fairfax Trfwy) to Kaw Point Park in KCK. It is now...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

They blame the trees, but they need to blame their snow contractor.
Is there anyone communicating this to management?

Serious question, don't know if they work with the city on landscaping, sidewalk trees etc.

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

There is so much wasted space around the PAC. Why don't they build on some of that space? Why does it have to be this fortress structure with no walkable connection to the neighborhoods around it? Surely, development is coming. I would imagine the complexity of the Conservatory deal has held things...

Re: What route makes the most sense for a beginning Light Rail line in KC?

Interesting discussion. Overall I agree with Dave. I don't see the need or desire for any sort of large scale LRT build-out in KC. Streetcar, perhaps with faster running dedicated lanes south of Union Station (we have the street lanes, certainly), is all the rail this city needs to be successful IMO...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Agree that Westport High would be a poor location for the Conservatory. Either build on UMKC campus, or in a location where potential synergy with various performing arts stakeholders can occur (i.e. downtown). Period. I've really come around on the Barney Allis Plaza location if it was planned crea...

Re: Downtown needs larger police presence

if the numbers are even accurate. I've had my cars vandlized/broken into 4 times in the last year downtown, only reported it once because the police don't do anything about it.... they just let the panhandling/drugies run the neighborhood which was actually one of the biggest reasons I left downtow...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

Pretty much any street downtown outside PnL needs extensive landscaping. Broadway is probably the most desolate street downtown. The City has really neglected this for too long, but again, it's the KC way. Agree. Grand is really bad too. Wish there was a dedicated fund for greening/street trees thr...

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

^ I was thinking the same thing with my earlier post, but I also wonder whether we should be running rail out to the suburbs at a huge cost instead of pushing for the stadiums to be moved closer in on existing transportation options. For the 100s of millions needed to run rail, I’d rather them spen...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

So I've been living in the river market for a few weeks now and have really fallen for the streetcar. Have hopped on for several very quick trips to grab groceries at Cosentino's, Chipotle, etc. and have been pleased. Headways and on-time performance seem improved from my initial experiences within ...

Re: River Market to Cliff Drive Bike Connection

Checked out the Cliff Drive Connector this evening. Really nice to be able to move quickly and easily from City Market to Cliff Drive and beyond. It's a pretty stiff grade coming up the bluff but the path is nice and wide, and runs through an attractive, densely wooded area that would surely have be...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

I recently moved to City Market, which is really chock full of awesome nearby amenities, including, roughly, the desired "bodegas" (Market 3, Nature's Own, maybe Chinatown). Also recently found a great barber shop and suiting in the hood (The Barberette, Houndstooth). However, a couple downtown amen...

This project is a wonderful surprise. Unique, dynamic design (though looking forward to more detailed renderings/additional angles), the perfect location, an interesting unit mix. BUILD IT NOW. It's frustrating that there is "any" negative discussion re: potential height, on a 14-story building goin...
