Re: City Center Square for sale

Too true re: fast food/counter eats downtown, and Cosentino's getting slammed during youth conventions. Said it before and I'll keep saying it - would be wonderful if the P&L Mixx had normal hours, like the Plaza location. Or even just until 6 or 7. Closing at 3? Sad. This situation has given me an ...

Re: Hotel Overbuilding?

I thought general consensus around here was that we are reaching a saturation point on restaurants and bars too. I don't think we are, but I've seen it mentioned a few times around here. I see these comments too, but I think we're a long way from "overbuilding" the restaurant and bar scene, if the ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Good opportunity to rehab the old Plaza Theater! Only half joking - would love to see it happen if there is even a fraction of the original theater space and architectural detail left. I don't see this as a huge loss - these theaters took up a ton of space and were empty a lot of the time. Also not ...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I see more and more runners on Main Street all the time. It’s great to see renewed activity in the city, but it’s kind of awkward when trying to walk with someone else on the sidewalk and a crew of joggers comes barreling towards you. Has anyone thought about turning the alley between Main and Balt...

Re: "Tower East"

I do agree that sounds like a dispensary name. Although, I'm hoping for more creative names. Knowing this town, we'll have "Streetcar Dispensary" and "Westport Dispensary" before we have a "Dank of America" or "Grass Station". Kansas City Pot Co.? Marijuana on Main? We still can't seem to get solid...

This is true - still miss it. Believe that space is still empty, as well.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

I saw one version of the plan that would put all of the apartments in Hyde Park and used the SP and CC corners as a strip mall and surface parking. JFC. This has the potential to be one of the most transformative projects in the city; it can't be hobbled by these kinds of demands. What kind of pull...

Re: OFFICIAL - City Bank Building (Church of Scientology)

Following up here, I wish we knew why they covered up all of the signage and symbols - permitting issues? I think these guys did a bang up job on the building reno and I love both the rooftop sign and the weird lit symbols at street level. A strangely solid addition to downtown, aesthetically.

Re: OFFICIAL - McCown Gordon HQ

I quite like the way the new McCown Gordon HQ looms over Main Street here, and the transparency that the glass and exterior spaces add. Wish we could get some bump outs and plantings around the Muse of the Missouri fountain and add seating/public space, a la the Janette Sadhik-Khan era Manhattan ped...

Re: Uptown Theatre district improvements

Not to be KC sacrilegious, but do people (especially people under 30) really like jazz? I hear people talking using jazz as an attraction for the city, but I don’t really know anyone who would travel to a city for trumpets and saxophones. Fire away! I love jazz (though over 30), and think KC could ...

Re: 3rd & Grand to be redeveloped as TOD

Maybe I am misunderstanding this project - we've seen several rounds of renderings at this point and know Briarcliff is paying an ongoing fee for the development rights. But is this happening? When? Is the project still "proposed" until a tenant(s) comes along? This will fill a massive hole on the n...

Yeah, the 4BR/4BA units at 44 Belle almost certainly means they're targeting the student demo. Which is interesting at that location, but at that same time it's well located between UMKC/Rockhurst and KU Med.

Re: Union Hill Development

Would be nice to see that stretch of Gillham go through a road diet, with diagonal parking spaces along the west side in front of the Union Hill retail. I think that would A) provide additional, visible parking right directly in front of the retail, B) make clear that there is in fact a significant ...

Re: OFFICIAL - 909 Walnut

Excellent that Spokes will be adding sidewalk seating to that corner. But would be even nicer if they were open later than 6:30 PM and/or made the windows a little more transparent. Walnut could use the increased activity, though I get Spokes is on an island there after dark.

Thanks for starting this thread, Chrizow, will be following it closely. On a related note, did anyone attend the KCMO school forum at the downtown library (want to say it was in December)? I didn't make it but it seemed like a nice way to put all of the academic options a KCMO parent has under one r...

Totally agree. I love craft beer and I'll check this place out eventually, but I haven't been yet because sours and IPAs are too overdone and I just can't get myself excited about it. Meanwhile there's only a smattering of ambers/browns/porters/stouts being brewed here, though a couple of places ha...

Fairway (a total hidden gem) and Westwood also have nice areas. There is also Mission Woods, which is a tiny Mission Hills without the name. Definitely wouldn't call Fairway (or any these other Golden Triangle enclaves) a hidden gem. I do however appreciate the support of PV, etc. These are all ver...
