Re: 2019 Mayor/Council Elections

So, is the general rag consensus that we are on the verge of slipping back into a more negative, anti-development cycle under Lucas and co.? It's already been a slow year for new development announcements and the vibe I'm getting from news about town reminds me just a bit of the dark days of Funkhou...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

The big main dining room is now just another art gallery space. Unfortunate in that the business wasn't there but I agree with Dave, probably a good move. Assuming they added tables and chairs in the old/bar room to accommodate additional guests? The couple of times I've eaten at the bar (and I did...

Re: Condos near Federal Reserve

It never made sense as condos anyway. Another Wayne Reeder disaster.
Yep. This is such a key spot for redevelopment and is such an eyesore as-is. Hopefully with the upcoming streetcar there will be renewed pressure to improve or sell.

And for the record, I also quite like the Critical Mass city flag - western MO spin on the STL twin rivers design. Elegant.

Re: The KC City Flag

So, when are we campaigning for my flag? Whether your flag, the new interlocked KC "logo", or something else entirely, we really do need an updated city flag folks can get behind. Meaningful official branding. How does one go about petitioning for this change? You would think it may have crossed a ...

Yep, it's Maxus. Also developed Chicken N Pickle and have a small handful of commercial properties, but largely residential multifamily.

No concrete plans for AT&T yet that I am aware of...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Love the rainbow, as well as the prior Royals, Chiefs, and Open Spaces wraps!

I was previously of the mindset that the silver and white livery was a little too plain, but it does provide a really nice base for these seasonal/occasional wraps, which are a lot of fun.

Re: 1822 Main Redevlopment

I mentioned 6 but even if taller is another reason there needs to be city-owned mega garage(s) somewhere along streetcar line that would allow developers to build up along streetcar line w/out needing a garage, tenants can lease the city garage. I think the City Market overflow lot near Commerce Ba...

I don't see any mention of income requirements on these. What guarantee is there that these will go to the folks that the affordable housing uproar represents?
Per article in KCBJ, 1/3 of units will require income at or below 80% AMI.

Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?

why does there need to be a levy trail along the MO River when there's a trail under a block away already? As far as I can tell, the heritage trail already connects all the way across the Kansas River and has been for years look, I'm relatively happy with the riverfront heritage trail, and I'm happ...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte

It's worth noting that the original proposal for this vacant land was what became the Todd Bolender Center next to Union Station (so it would have remained a nonprofit parcel and use). Indeed, designed by Moshe Safdie to complement the PAC if I remember correctly. Between that and the UMKC Performi...

Excited to see this go up in the Crossroads but still bummed they stripped off the awesome textured exterior wall on the east side. Big downgrade, IMO, and haven't seen any explanation of the change anywhere.

Interesting notes about the potential for additional value add through the development of the unfinished commercial space, potentially as small apts. When this was proposed, I remember it being pitched romantically as a "vertical neighborhood" with several different uses under the roof. Did they eve...

Thanks for sharing that website - Rock Island bridge seems like a really cool idea. Sounds like they intend it to be a destination on it's own, combined with a steady stream of visitors from Hy-Vee arena. The nearby KC rowing club dock and ongoing development of the "Stockyards District" strip also ...

Re: KC metro growth and migration stats

The dynamic pricing they also added meant the few teams i wanted to see, mostly the stl cardinals, were now premium games that were $40 for the cheapest ticket when i used to go to those games for like $10. Just looked on stubhub. For this season cheapest tickets are KC @ STL for $9; STL @KC is $35...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I am disappointed in the upcoming Thou Mayest plans, per CityScene. I loved everything about their old place (location, interior design, clientele/vibe, bar/coffee concept) and was excited about a larger downtown flagship. Sounds like that is now on the backburner, if it ever happens. Quay Coffee is...

I don't remember Farm to Table Kitchen.
Farm to Table was like a professional kitchen/prep space that could be rented for events or large scale food preparation, from my understanding. Was a nice looking space and kind of a neat idea within City Market; must not have found an audience...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I don't like that at all. I'd rather have just had a redone streetcar sitting there as art and a ground level greenspace type of setup around it.
Totally agree, but assuming they had to do something like this for ADA compliance, with built-in ramp?

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

Having a central park would be amazing. I'm absolutely all for an I-670 deck park a la Dallas. I think the space would be incredible, and likely very well used. However, if given the choice, I'd rather invest ~$100m in a rebuild of Penn Valley Park, our already extant downtown central park, complet...
