Re: Westport

Wasn't sure where to put this one....I guess the Westport is close enough. Anyone know why this building is currently being demoed? This city is getting knocked down faster than it is being built up. https://goo.gl/maps/fodpk8xnQF32 Photo taken this morning... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4683/241...

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham

Gilham Road curves to the east at 34th Street, then heads north in an alignment on Cherry for three blocks, to 31st, before heading back west in front of El Torreon. Historically, it continued north to 25th Street and then curved into Pershing. When the flatter alignment was established on Locust f...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

don't fight this project because of aesthetics. if you want better, lobby for design guidelines (which we clearly don't have) or get a meeting with the developer. why give opponents the ammunition when you won't get what you want with internet chatter? taking the long view, things are improving and...

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

Related: Here is the other project on the same TIF application at 3260 Main. It suffers that same problem, though not quite as bad because the larger lot reduces the dominance of the drive aprons. (click image to see better detail) https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4478/23905893428_4a37d6dc31_k.jpg

Re: West 39th Street Apartments

Why don't we force these project to have a better relationship to the public realm? I am all for the density, but jeez...this thing is bad. It is all drive aprons and a tiny lobby. How hateful! (click image to see better detail) https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4512/37049814154_7d83ea6068_k.jpg

I wish this was an option for this building (don't get excited!). I recently found this image of a building in San Antonio.

Better than that car wash, but still very hateful to the pedestrian. Minimize the car hole and I am in favor. As shown, I think this hurts making this part of 39th Street worth caring about.

Ooh, forgot - for JoCo residents this is important! El Fogon Deli Taqueria, 10450 Metcalf. It's great, the quesadillas are awesome, tacos are good. the tortillas are fresh, not 100% sure they make them to order but they tasted like it. Saw several people chowing into huge yummy looking tortas. The ...

Re: Westport

Vacating part of Mill Street for the Manor Square hotel is on this week's council legislative agenda. Does anybody yet know what this vacation specifically proposes? It doesn't really make sense to me, unless the driveway to the garage is officially part of Mill Street or they want to narrow the ro...

JoCo Courthouse in Downtown Olathe

Seriously,...Olathe!?! I saw this on TV a few nights ago. This thinking is why Olathe sucks so bad. This is how they destroyed their downtown years ago and continue to do so. Just what downtown Olathe needs: fewer historic homes and more parking lots. http://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/some-johnson...

Re: Sears closing

I think the existing Home Depot is too far from the proposed Lowes. They should move the HD to the Sears site so the two big box home improvement stores can stare back at each other.

The two parcels of available land are located along 19th Street between Oak and Cherry streets and joined at Locust Street in the East Crossroads near Crown Center and the KC Streetcar. I have always felt that the only way we turn around the 18th & Vine district is to back fill the east crossro...

Best in this order: 1. Lawrence (if you consider it a suburb) 2. NKC 3. Liberty 4. Lee's Summit 5. OP (getting better with more development going in) 6. Parkville (if Lawrence doesn't count) Most interesting suburban retail nodes or downtowns with potential: 1. Independence Square 2. Mission (they k...
