Re: Westport
The suburban format Walgreens, Gomers, and Jimmy Johns drive through on the other three corners are just so depressing for what should be a very important and valuable intersection for the city. Not even 35 years ago it was a two-story Tobler's Flowers (offices on 2) on the NE corner; a 3 story apa...

Re: Trees in KC (ongoing)
MARC worked with MultiStudio to create a couple of model ordinances for cities to use as a starting point for new or updated ordinances on tree preservation and weed control/native plants. Several metro cities are already using these to update their ordinance. Many others should be. http://marc2.org...

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
I have thought saving the old bridge for a park was an incredibly dumb idea since the first moment I saw it. I appreciate the concept being thrown out there, but the fact that it received any traction was a joke. Were we trying to save the bridge? ..or build a useful place for the community to meet ...

I get a 1980 College and Quivera Tippens vibe. Bad beige formed stucco, bad arched windows but didn't want to pay for the window arch glass so just filled it in, bolted on balconies, tinted glass...it's bad.

Amen! This park will never be a successful city amenity until the perimeter hostility is tamed and the internal car sewer is removed.FlippantCitizen wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 11:57 pm The park is just inaccessible, surrounded by pedestrian hostile streets on practically every side. Once inside it is chopped up by further unsafe streets.

Re: Observations by a Newcomer
The lack of street trees downtown and on main avenues around town surprises me. Oddly, KCMO is better at this than almost any other city in the metro, with exception of Leawood, MH, Lenexa and PV. Overland Park is viewed as a leader in many regards, but for street trees they are a laggard. They are...

Re: Turn the North Loop into a bigger living/working district?
-Capping or filling the north loop will be expensive. If the linear park concept is pursued (which I'm not endorsing) then hopefully they wouldn't actually fill in 100% of the land. imo it would be better to leave it at least partially below grade so that people can walk underneath the intersecting...

Re: Turn the North Loop into a bigger living/working district?
This was fully hashed out in the other North Loop thread. Some cons to doing this: 1-There is a lot of developable land in DT but this land happens to be directly adjacent to RM, and on/near the streetcar route, which makes it among the most valuable. 2-Other developable parcels are owned by a vari...

Re: Turn the North Loop into a bigger living/working district?
I think we have decades worth of developable land in downtown. A full-blown central park to attract that development, families and dog owners and connects to neighborhoods to the east is the way to go!!

That north fountain was fully restored about 5 years ago with new pumps, lights, piping, valves, historic tile and waterproofing.

Does anyone else hate the dedicated right turn lane from southbound Brookside Blvd to westbound 63rd Street?
One way for Brookside Plaza? Seriously?

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd
Naming a street after this civil rights hero was a pathetic move anyway. He deserves a great park or monument (the current park is very weak). If the on again, off again Washington Square Park ever happens, I propose naming it after MLK. That would cause more city leaders to push it forward and woul...

No details. The speaker just wanted us to consider unusual options for creating city-building public space. This one seemed worthy more discussion.
