Re: West Plaza

Correct with the new Mikes (with drive through) and the mega QuikTrip and all the other cheap franchise joints this strip will no doubt become a walkable pedestrian paradise. Did someone say "walking paradise"? So sad.....KC needs to learn that "walkability" isn't just about building sidewalk...

I HATE everything that has happened on this site. Terrible. OP talked the talk with Vision Metcalf, but are politically incapable of walking the walk.

I think this tweet is a good example of the divide between "designers" and the average citizen. Read the comments.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

TheLastGentleman - Bravo to all your comments and rebuttals. All arguments against you are merely uninformed excuses. Great points. Ornament or other human scale details are critical to making buildings worth caring about. Every building that is built that lacks that detail will never make the city...

Re: Plaza Residential Development

A group of 20 townhomes on the 4400 blocks of Broadway and Washington are set to be expanded and renovated/revamped. They will be expanded in the rear to nearly twice the size and it looks like there will be significant changes to the facades with balconies added That seems like a good project. It ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I think that the need for ornamentation is gone. It used to be something that drove tenant and public interest in a project. Now Technology is what really drives tenant interest, leasing rates, and even public interest. Whether that is buttonless elevators, LED walls, or even efficient and environm...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

You were doing so good and then it became subjective. I think my statement is very accurate. Are new buildings uglier than pre-war buildings? On average, yes. At least to non-architects. Are new buildings less interesting/ornamented than pre-war buildings? On average, yes. Do new buildings degrade ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Right. It's not even the nicest church on that part of 47th (Unity is). And the building replacing it is anything special? An ugly box. The reason people are so defensive of old buildings isn't necessarily that they were transcendentally good, but that the alternative to them is almost guaranteed t...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

The thing I worry about with that type of deal though is that the congregation will continue to get smaller and smaller until it doesn't exist anymore. I mean, how many Christian Scientists does one even encounter in KC. So they eventually cease to exist anyway and a perfectly good church building-...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

Wagner also pointed out that there has been a city park honoring Dr. King since 1978, so the idea that Kansas City had done nothing to honor Dr. King was incorrect. https://kcparks.org/places/king-martin-luther-jr-square/ Thanks for mentioning this. I pass this park all the time and never noticed t...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

I like the Paseo name, but it still has zero KC-specific heritage. Meyer has a street. Kessler has a street. No reason their boondoggle to Mexico has to be memorialized forever with a stolen street name. Because MLK came to KC when? I offer a simple counter to the idea that we should be sitting Shi...
