Re: abandoned 1930's elementary school
Hey thanks! I better be discrete about which school this is, 'cause we did not have permission to be there. Are they really leg braces?! Yes, a back brace and a leg brace and some others. Why was the school abandoned? Was there a massacre there? Ha! We could tell from the paperwork that the school w...

tunnel under Oak St.?
I took this picture last June. It shows the construction site on Oak St between 55th St and 54th. It looks as though there was a tunnel under Oak St. I am calling it a tunnel -- as opposed to a sewer -- because it had a flat floor, as if for walking. I went back a week later, prepared to go inside, ...

Re: Fire Alarm Exchange Building@22nd and Gillham
I went inside last summer. The insides were pretty trashed out and chewed up. There was none of the original signaling electronics, although you could see where the racks had been. There was a storage room with radios from (I think) the 1960's. http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5298/sspx0367ht0.jpg...

That's a good use for that building and that neighborhood, but I hope that the antique store can re-open elsewhere. They always have great furniture.....

Re: Union Station Powerhouse Building
anyone know what the hold up is here? I have a suspicion about this project, that it was dropped on the ballet and they felt that they had to go along with it. I think that they would have preferred a purpose-built building next to the new performing arts center, which was the original plan. The po...

Re: West Bottoms Architectural Salvage
I was there Friday night and I highly recommend a visit. They have some major architectural fragments: terra cotta, stone, metal and wood. There is a 12-foot electric Town Topic sign painted on both sides. They have a large inventory of old porcelain sinks in the basement, for both commercial and re...
