There is high crime here, but we aren't ashamed of it, like St. Louis. You never see St. Louis on Cops, or any other police show.

Re: Official KCK Development Thread

It could be worse.  Raytown's new retail center (which includes a walmart) was proposed like 2 years before the KCK development.  They are just now "getting ready" to clear the site (demolish buildings when the vo-tech moves out). Although Raytown's development is a true "re" de...

Re: Indian Springs, bulldoze and start over or reuse?

As big as the mall site is, and its proximity to other locations throughout the metro area, I see that land being very valuable. Is there any other piece of land that large ready to develop that close to downtown KCMO, and sitting right along two major highways in the KC metro? I'm not saying necess...

Re: Population Study

When you think about it, it's really mind-boggling that New York City has more people (8 million) than Missouri does. And that's just the city, I'm not counting the MSA population. It is mind boggling. I believe the population of Queens alone is higher than the entire state of Kansas. However you c...

Re: Lenexa CityCenter

A friend of a friend said that Target and a new Dickinson theater are eventually coming to this development. The theater would replace Dickinson's West Glen. I think a more likely site for these would be further west near K7. Whats wrong with Westglen? I guess Westglen was built just a year or so b...

Re: New QuikTrip near Antioch Mall

I guess the goal of the company is to locate a Quiktrip at every highway exit in the entire Northland, hell the entire metro for that matter :D

The Mall is looking pretty forlorn. To make matters worse will be the closed Best Buy across the street when the new one by Zona Rosa opens.

Re: OFFICIAL: Zona Rosa (tenants & phase II)

I can't think of a new urbanism project in any city that has been built in the suburbs that is any different.  It's an island for sure.  But there is only so much you can do.  99% of the population would still prefer a typical suburban home other than the retro traditional stuff they are trying to ...

Re: OFFICIAL: Zona Rosa (tenants & phase II)

Zona looks nice from those pictures.   It's pretty obvious that Zona Rosa's potential as a new urbanism poster child is fairly compromised by nature of the land use in the immediate area.  In bottom photo, the entire development is blocked off towards the bottom of the photo by a very low density l...

Re: Population Study

I'm very curious to see the power in city hall shift from the urban core, to the more suburban areas of the city. I just hope that those people in the Northland have the same commitment to downtown and the urban core even though they don't live there.

Re: Why has KC appeard on Cops so many times?

I think that it shows KC is more than just another sleepy cow town where nothing happens. Also skyline shots are great :)

KC has crime, just like every other major city, I think its a good thing to show that we have a capable police force. I also realliy liked the show Kansas City Swat.

Re: State Avenue BRT

Interesting. Rather than wasting money on BRT, why not just fix the current bus routes. Having to transfer at Indian Springs is idiotic. Also the main bus route should be along State Ave. throughout all of KCK, but the 101 goes up Minnesota, which ends at 38th street. More frequent service on the we...

Re: Is it me, or is the KC job market CRAP?

I had a very hard time finding a job after I graduated from college a few years ago. In fact I even talked about it in the thread :) I was fortunate enough to find a really good job in my field of study(telecommunications) at AT&T. It took a long time and a lot of persistence though. To those st...

Re: Do city/county mergers work?

City county merger didn't work here in KCK, not until they make it a true merger. What do I mean? Well let me be clear. There is a KCK police department, a Bonner Springs police department, an Edwardsville police department, and a Wyandotte County Sheriffs department still to this day. I thought a m...

Here is another project I didn't know about. Apparently there is going to be a focus on restoring the Sumner High School Area. Kansas City LISC will be the ones working on the project. http://www.kansascitykansan.com/articles/2008/03/23/news/news2.txt The school itself should be a significant focus ...
