Re: Westside happenings

Has anyone drove by this parcel recently to see if this house is finished? The address is 1748 Madison. http://www.candgworks.com/recent-developments Site: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1748+Madison+Avenue,+Kansas+City,+MO&hl=en&ll=39.091562,-94.594591&spn=0.000473,0.000764&sll=40.7...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Definitely a decent gas station where the clerk doesn't have to ask me if the "customers" outside have been harassing me. Haha are you talking about the Valero? In 2009 I had a temp job around the corner from the Valero on 16th, and in the 3 weeks I was there, two people were shot in the ...

Re: Grinders

Gonna have to say- two of my favorite two servers in KC work at Grinders. And- service to me makes it or breaks it.  I won't go back to Beer Kitchen because of the horrible treatment we have gotten there. There is only one person at Grinders that doesn't treat us well- and I avoid her.  Just my two ...

Re: Los Alamos

This is a day late- but for future reference, they have been doing Tequilla tastings on First Fridays.  Seems to be a hit- and is a nice spin on the normal wine tastings every where else.

Re: The Sweet Guy in Waldo

Disappointing, but frankly- I wasn't really clear on what their hours/ offerings were.  Went by a couple of times for lunch, and it was great.  Then, stopped by a few weeks ago for dinner- and they said they didn't serve dinner!  Just gelato and drinks I guess?  Not sure how you expect families to f...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

Tried the Gyro place in the Shell Gas Station.  Have to say- it is amazing!  The whole time we were there, there was a steady stream of people in- and all of them seemed to be returning customers.  I would definitely recommend getting the hot sauce added as well- delicious!

Re: Cozy Inn, Salina

As I understand it, the same cast iron griddle has been in use since the place opened in 1922. It has been cleaned exactly once, and they fired the guy for it, sometime in the 1930s. That's the legend, anyway. Sounds like a really interesting day trip in any case. Not sure exactly when it happened ...

Re: Cozy Inn, Salina

Yep, I am from there originally, and is one of my favorites to hit up when I go back and visit.  I would say the only thing I know that is similar would be White Castle, but these are pretty unique little burgers.  The griddle they use has been used for decades probably- which adds to the overall fl...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

Off topic a little- anyone know what is going on in the two spaces near where Meal Makers used to be?  Looks like some big art pieces inside.  A gallery maybe?

Re: Wonderful Waldo

I stopped by One More Cup yesterday, but didn't notice the smell.  I did think it looked kinda like a grandma's house to some degree...the odd mismatched chairs and tables and kids table, etc.  I did love the photos on the walls and with a few tweaks I think it could morph into the hipper kind of...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

It should be open any day now, shouldn't it?  I can't wait! I heard the same rumor about Coffee Girls, yes although I'm not 100% sure of the location.... Is there anything further rumored about "Lew's II"?  They mentioned it in a nice feature article in the Star a few months back, but I h...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

Heard yesterday a rumor about Coffee Girls coming to Waldo- somewhere over by Kennedy's.  Can anyone confirm this?

I wonder what this will mean for the One More Cup coffee shop they have been working on around the corner?

Re: Favorite Waldo/Brookside restaurant?

I didn't see Sharp's on the list.  It took me forever to find that place, and has great breakfast.  Also like to go there when feel like a later dinner, but don't want all the noise of one of the bar-type places, like 75th.

Re: hyde park: believe the hype?

Yepp- at 75th and Baltimore last year found a bullet in my upstairs bathroom- came in through the skylight.

When I called to have it replaced, the guy told me it happens a lot, and that they can travel in the air from a few miles away.

Swell!

Well, I might eat my words.  Just drove by- one big machine parked on the street, and two guys in hardhats standing at the top looking down.  Not much, but at least someone is out there.
