Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Without the Country Club District, could the city have fallen out of favor and JOCO taken even more citizens? White flight was not a KC-only problem and it wasn't created by Nichols. You say that, but isn't Nichols the one who got Mission Hills and Prairie Village started in the first place and bui...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

^Taubman mentions transitioning retail spaces to more restaurants but that's about it. They need to target much broader than that such as nightlife/cultural venues that target perhaps 40+. Like Highwoods, no mention of a neighborhood surrounding it, which Nichols always acknowledged and partly cate...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

The thing is, The Plaza is/was so great because the developer had a clear vision. He really cared about well-to-do white people and how his development looks and functioned. He also had a ton of pride for his developments and for KC. FTFY Racism aside, he really was a great developer with a great v...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I really wish Nichols company got the pre-WWII plaza buildings on the National Register of Historic Places before they sold it back in 1998. We need to get those original buildings on the register NOW! I would really hate to see the plaza destroyed in some attempt to 'save it'. It doesn't really nee...

Peggy has her main shop/showroom in LA now, so I wonder if she will even maintain a presence in KC. I hope so!!

Does the plaza theater's interior still exist? http://photos.cinematreasures.org/production/photos/68677/1362430293/large.PNG?1362430293 http://photos.cinematreasures.org/production/photos/68674/1362430046/large.PNG?1362430046 My understanding is that the auditorium remains with ceiling and stage i...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I've always thought the old Theater should be restored/renovated and turned into a live theater. That would activate that intersection. It would also be great to have a little place where you could get some Spanish street food and things like churros. (like where the shoe shine once was?) With respe...

Re: 4315-4323 Belleview?

Always thought the duplex with stacked balconies was a nice looking building. They are fairly common though.

Can't wait to see that terrible landscaping (or lack there of) removed.

I don't expect to see those apartments standing for too much longer. That whole area is changing fast.

I believe it has looked that was for a very long time. I wonder how well they will be able to match the brick when they repair that wall.

https://i.imgur.com/RbgmYZ4.jpg I think the 'art' chandelier is really tacky! I was hoping it was just a temporary piece, but according to the front desk it is permanent. The dome was restored but it will not be lit. What a waste of a beautiful feature!! Also thought it was odd not the use the orig...

Re: River Market to Cliff Drive Bike Connection

The connector is awesome! It is a little hard to find as It starts in a weird spot, deep in the projects. The trail is really well landscaped and there are artifacts from the city's past everywhere. The ground it littered with pulverized bricks. There were salvaged architectural elements near the tr...

Are they creating a path up the bluffs here too?

Looks like a ramped walkway. Could also just be for construction.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

This is potentially terrible news. For me, that block really embodies everything I value about the Crossroads. Plus, I love all those businesses and artists. Peggy Noland is living/working in LA now so I kind of doubt she will continue to have a presence here...that's sad. KC is really starting to c...

Loving the influx of local stores. So chains I would like to see move in:

-Zara
-Scotch and Soda
-Gant
-Lacoste
-Ralph Lauren (I know they are struggling a bit but it's a classic, quality brand)

Looks like the old stone wall is remaining in place, but that could change. Hope it stays or is re-built in after.
