Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park

:x :x :x Some assholes defaced the Dedication Wall at the memorial last night. Red spray paint on the bronze busts and across the limestone wall.

You clearly don't understand how television works. Hint: it's edited and you don't get all the facts. Hey I just want to point out this quote as an example of the prime cunty-ness on this forum. I don't mean to single out this one member. It's not just one person, this is the 'culture' the board ha...

Yes, these guides exist for other cities. Maybe this will show up in Google search. Please post others.

Re: Troost developments

That argument makes sense but I'm not sure how much weight it carries for an upper middle-to-middle class resident who may be able to comfortably adjust their monthly budget if taxes went up. And the potential gains in amenities within walking distance of their home isn't compelling because they've...

They did build a small display window! I wonder what they will put in there. Good place for Art-in-the-Loop?

Dixie Bell was in the Rieger. 1822 was Tootsies.

The crossroads needs a new gay bar!

Does anyone know how long the trees along the river can remain submerged without being pushing over or dying?

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

A non movable planter is called a permanent planter. Oh! thank you for that! Gee I never would have know that without your excellent input! I don't think it should just be a big planter, permanent or not. It should look like an extension of the sidewalk. Remove the un-used street. This rende...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I'm thinking of something that is permanent, not a movable planter or bollard. I literally want to see landscaped medians and sidewalk bumpouts that mimic the current flex bollard layout. Yeah, they would be a little odd shaped, but that wouldn't bother me.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I'm still holding out hope that some day the zones that are blocked off along the Main streetcar line with plastic barriers will be replaced with concrete curbs & planting beds. Those plastic barriers are ugly (and will look more tired with age). If those spaces truly are no-go-zones then lets make ...

Re: Making downtown more pedestrian friendly

Those crosswalks belong on Broadway between Armour and 39th! Always thought that little stretch could develop nicely into the city's 'Gay District'. It's got a start, but more gay bars, shops and maybe a small boutique hotel could really push it into a real district. Maybe the crosswalks could help ...

The entire district isn't capped at three stories, just key sections.

I think this is great. Protect the historic area's character and allow larger development on the larger thoroughfares. Makes sense.

Re: 1822 Main Redevlopment

Whatever they do, I hope they keep the facade of the State Bank Building and maybe use it as the entrance if they end up constructing a new building. https://i.imgur.com/JMCFvBB.jpg Yes, that must be kept. Anyone with taste would try to keep it. Might have to launch another fight to save the facade...

Funny how we demolish that great little colonnade court by the medial school, then construct some pseudo-colonnades nearby.

Re: Hawthorne Plaza

SO glad this project is happening. Such a great facade and (potentially) a great intersection.

I hope more renovation/restoration is coming soon for this area. #1 on the list is the old Harling's building. My top favorite deco building in midtown.

I was not happy about the house demo either, I liked that house. I do not think that was a Louis Curtiss house, it did not have unique enough features. One bright spot, there is a close copy on Janssen Place! https://www.google.com/maps/place/Janssen+Pl,+Kansas+City,+MO+64109/@39.0599212,-94.5783733...

Overall looks like a nice addition to the area. I love to see the short stone walls around the entrance. Will make it look like its been there all along.

Brings a new texture downtown, which is a nice variation. Though are the blank wall parts staying stripped concrete?
I think the concrete is the finished product. I really like the new color and texture! Not everything needs to match!

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Looks descent. I appreciate the want to match the other buildings on the skyline, but I'm tired of limestone colored panels and blue glass. We need some new materials on our skyline! Variation is just as important as complementing.
