Thinking outside the box on transit financing
Just creating this to spitball on creative public-private financing ideas for transit. In the current political environment, it's difficult to rely on funding from the federal and state governments. It might be worthwhile to seriously consider how we can leverage relationships between the city and t...

East-West Transit Options Built into Streetcar Spine
Has there been any consideration of BRT for major east-west corridors connecting into the north-south streetcar transit spine? It's exciting that we are having success with MAX lines (Prospect MAX just for example), and I think if we can market these assets in the same manner as our streetcar, we ca...

Re: On-going downtown development projects
I just wanted to keep an updated sticky for on-going development projects in downtown KC (let's define that loosely as the River Market-Crossroads-Plaza Corridor). I would like to continually update this. I would like to keep this to concrete proposals (even if they don't come to fruition) rather t...

Re: 13th and Grand tower
New Copaken Brooks update on the page for this, including a new render video from HOK on their website. The architecture looks nice and it seems to be better than the initial rendering.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Atlanta provides some lessons. The first five months of 2017 they had 200,000 riders. We had almost 800,000 https://atlanta.curbed.com/2017/6/9/15760906/atlanta-streetcar-increased-ridership-resolved-safety-issues Right, I'm aware of the general connection between fares and ridership. I'd like to s...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I was back in town this past Saturday with my boyfriend and his family. They're from St. Louis, and his sister is going to UMKC for law school She was looking around at different apartments, and I think she settled on Crossroads Westside, but the family was impressed by the streetcar and the amount ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Since moving to Chicago, I haven’t been as up on this as I’d like to be. I’ve looked at their website, and am I wrong in thinking that a lot of the architectural renderings are subject to changes?

Re: New Broadway Bridge
Disgusting. So the grand plan is a bog-standard MoDOT highway overpass of a new bridge? Let me guess: they'll tack on a five-foot wide pedestrian path on one side and pat themselves on the back. Oh, we're so urban and progressive! Is connecting 169 and I-35 locked in as the highest priority? In my ...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown
Agreed. The saddest part to me is that even a Democrat, Jay Nixon, withheld funds that were meant for post-secondary education. In some ways, he was the best Republican governor Missouri has had (obvious joke).grovester wrote:Hard to argue that education should not be paid for at the state level.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Do you think they will be the same color scheme, or do you think there will ever be another color scheme incorporated? you are the first to ask. i doubt it. why? I like the classiness of the black and white colour scheme, and it is iconic. The times that I've seen some color added via smaller wraps...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown
What does UMKC even get from the state and the UM system. This should push for a full name change to Kansas City University. If they aren't going to truly partner with us, we should cut them loose. Just to be clear, the UM System does a lot for each of its campuses, including the new funding path b...
