Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Park,_Kansas_City And apparently Walter Cronkite of all people was there to witness Electric Park II's fiery demise. This is my first time reading about this, quite an interesting piece of history! The park inspired a certain young Mr. Disney in the design of ...

27th Street is now completely missing adjacent to this project. That was a surprise on my way to work this morning.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The sky bridge to St. Luke's would have been cool, but the expense of that makes it make a lot more sense as to why they would keep both 43rd & 45th instead of combining at 44th.

Interesting read!

Yeah, it's puzzling to me that they are converting a building already set up as apartments into a hotel, and a building already set up as a hotel into apartments.

Re: Bike Lanes

I already saw a car in the bike lane yesterday- they were loading something up in their car. The parking spaces aren't fully painted though- maybe with the buffer, cars will do a better job of respecting the bike lanes. I saw a truck parked in the bike lane on Grand with its hazards on last night a...

^Yep! I noticed the freshly painted "BUS ONLY" markings on the pavement and a whole slew of covered up "No Parking" signs installed and waiting to be uncovered. I honestly don't remember this being too terrible when the Paseo Bridge broke after people had a couple of weeks to adj...

Beardsley Road

Our favorite short cut that can never seem to stay open very long will be closed at least through this weekend after a homeless camp fire this afternoon caused possible structural damage.

Re: North Kansas City

I think this may be the time to introduce some residential into downtown NKC. Especially in that area with CVS across the street, a few breweries a block away, the nearby restaurants, etc. I think an apartment building similar to 1914 Main would do quite well there with ground level retail of cours...

Fire destroys building near Armour and Swift http://www.kmbc.com/article/careless-smoking-blamed-for-3-alarm-building-fire-in-north-kansas-city/20633006 I'm surprised it took so long for this to get mentioned here. Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park

None of the fountains or the reflecting pool at Liberty Memorial have been turned on yet this season, and in fact the drinking fountains are still off too. Come to think of it, the fountains here were barely on last year, either. It doesn't seem like the hillside work should require the water to be ...

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

How many floors are left to go? I noticed on Friday that the current height is now lined up exactly with the base of Kauffman Center when viewed from the base of Liberty Memorial. I know there's some sort of height restriction rule for anything built between the Memorial and Kauffman but I can't rem...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The other day I ran into a group of about 7 people at Zoo Bar who had been in KC for a couple of days for training and had been all over downtown enjoying the nightlife, but wanted to stick with dive bars. They'd heard about Westport, and in particular Buzzard Beach, and asked if it was in walking d...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Just have both the Linwood and 31st stops. Not worth pissing off a large group of supporters just to cut one stop, especially since either are better than the 45st St stop. Just have one long stop serving both streets better. Why does the train need to stop a block apart to make a small number of p...

While they were certainly unusable, given where we are now I find it amusing that one of the first things they had to do when they began construction was rip out all the old streetcar tracks.

I am so glad I found this. My pet peeve is parking. I hate never being able to find a good parking spot. It is not easy to have to walk to far in heels and it is not good after dark to be a lady walking alone. I bet you hate malls and big box stores too. You have to walk the equivalent of dozens of...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The hill compounds the distance between 27th and Linwood. Maybe a stop between 30th/31st would be appropriate in addition to Linwood, as it would be equidistant. This is a big part of the issue here with this being the only spot on the entire line that is proposed to run 2/3 of a mile in-between st...
