Google Maps just did another satellite view update for KC

The imagery can't be more than a couple months old because it includes my new driveway. :) New things you can see include interior walls at the Berkeley Riverfront apartments and a nearly topped-off Two Light.

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

(Reposted to the correct thread.) It isn't there anymore, but about a week ago there was a construction dumpster outside the building at the NW corner of 10th & Oak. (I believe it's one of the Abnos slums that would otherwise be a great building if owned by almost anyone else.) I saw people brin...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I can't imagine many are thinking of that...everybody I know is going to just step outside their office... Well, a lot of the downtown people who work south of the line of totality are thinking that. Downtown, you have to be north of a line running diagonally from 14th & Summit to 19th & Ch...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

So... for Total Eclipse Day, what are your all's thoughts on whether the streetcar will be able to handle the lunchtime crowd trying to get as far north as possible, or is it going to grid to a halt under the volumes of people & car traffic? Asking because some of my co-workers are planning to t...

Re: KC Bike share

Did you notice the one "coming soon" down at Longview Lake? That's interesting. Stations still notably absent from Liberty Memorial/PVP... Wait, so this isn't a bike share station being built at Liberty Memorial? It looks so much like the stub for one I thought all along that's what they ...

Re: Making downtown more pedestrian friendly

It didn't make the news (even though a similar accident in the Plaza did), but a woman and her child were struck by a car at 12th & McGee yesterday as they were walking to the Argyle. Those construction barricades along 12th for Traders and Grand are a menace with the reduced sight lines. If you...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

the layovers are union station are planned . yes, they should be shorter. that's not what contributes to waits elsewhere. with the layovers, headways are scheduled at 10-12 minutes all day long with three vehicles. So when you get on the streetcar at Union Station and it is completely full to the p...

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it light)

I don't think I've ever heard anyone pronounce "Wornall" with an "e" but it's probable I just really haven't noticed. I noticed our peculiarity with how we describe highways basically as soon as I was old enough to drive to other regions on my own. But I've noticed a few more pec...

Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal

No, four-ways DO NOT make them more dangerous for peds. Peds have 100% right of way at a stop sign. You can walk out at any time and a car must wait for you no matter what with or without a marked crosswalk. You're complaining about bad drivers, not the intersection design. Have you been downtown w...

Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal

It looks like they're moving this intersection to a four-way stop. The light has been flashing red for the past few days and stop signs have been installed. I hate four-way stops - people are idiots. Why do they keep pulling this crap in pedestrian-heavy areas? It makes the intersections so much mo...

Re: Best and Worst Suburban Downtowns

If we are including Leavenworth and Lawrence we might was well include Pleasant Hill and Harrisonville. Both solid Downtown's. Harrisionvile should be a great downtown, but it's too vacant due to nearly all the property being held for decades by a single developer who was saving it for a big projec...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I'll toss in another voice wishing they'd open the doors automatically at stops. A couple of weeks ago I needed to get off at a stop that wasn't one of my normal stops. It was night, and I was apparently the only person getting off at that particular stop. But because it's so freaking bright inside ...

I thought they were putting up a freeway sound barrier until this afternoon when I drove past the Admiral side of it. Looks like some sort of fort.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

The clickbaity local news articles and their hordes of anti-everything internet commentators about last night's Garth Brooks incident is really starting to piss me off. Yes, the Streetcar screwed up by promising they'd run an hour later than usual then not sending buses around when it couldn't happe...

Ah, cool, I assumed you'd have to return it to the same branch it was picked up from. Thanks! Edit: Also I didn't realize that "middle" building on the block was part of the library so I didn't look that far down Baltimore. I've only been in the library once and that was just to head to a ...

Noooooooob KC library question

I am currently in possession of a library book that my niece checked out from the Central Library. So far it's proving just about impossible for me to get there during library hours to return it. Do any of you know if it has an after-hours book drop, and if so, where it's located? I couldn't find on...

reported sidewalks blocked by this construction. The construction barriers are making it really hard to see to safely cross at 12th & McGee. The Pickwick initially had the same problem at 9th but mitigated it by replacing a section of barrier with fencing and temporarily making that intersectio...
