Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I could see why Beignet would want a larger spot but Windows's space is huge for what is otherwise a quaint eats counter. Would hate to see this place ending up not making it if not able to handle the rent for a space that size. Maybe they have ambitions to become KC's Cafe du Monde. It is just abo...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

That pic reminds me... has there been any activity yet with either the Cafe Al Dente or Winslow's spots? The landlords seemed in a hurry to send both packing but I haven't found anything since about plans for either spot.

Agreed. And if it had been in the hands of literally another other developer (apart from possibly Copaken), it would have been functioning as great loft space for a decade by now.

Re: Bike Lanes

KCPD needs to start spending some time hanging out near 20th & Grand during the afternoon rush hour. There hasn't been a day yet that I haven't seen someone use the right-turn lane at 20th to jump ahead past everyone using Grand correctly, and earlier this week I saw two cars continue straight o...

Oops, my bad. The rendering looked like a north-south alignment to me... I was having trouble differentiating new-build from existing on the non-glass portions.

Re: Hospital Hill activity

Children's Mercy is such a maze that it took me a bit to determine where this room was located, but I've determined it was one of the north-facing windows of the tower right at the SW corner of 24th & Holmes. From this angle at least, the new building's northern end (the stairwell) would be just...

Re: Hospital Hill activity

That exposed stairwell is pretty cool. Wonder if that is to encourage using the stairwell. It looks like there's space as sort of an observation platform at each level. The skyline views from the patient rooms already rival the view from the main platform at Liberty Memorial -- in fact would exceed...

I was thinking about them just a couple of days ago. The food wasn't spectacular and it was pricey, but it was nice having a 24-hour food option other than Town Topic.

Is there really a market for two of those so close together? There's already one going in at I-35 & 210.

Re: The Gallerie - 27th & Gillham Apartments and Condos

A five story concrete elevator shaft has sprouted up near the 27th and Gillham intersection. Now can get some idea of an area that has been barren for most peoples memories will look when built up to this height. I came into work via 27th Street this morning for the first time this week and was sho...

Re: New Broadway Bridge

Related, by sending everyone outbound going south through Harlem it gets a lot more eyes on the neighborhood. Best way to encourage redevelopment is to have people talking about how bad an area is They'll almost certainly officially divert at 9 and only let airport/VML traffic through. Harlem Rd &a...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I was impressed that it passed by similar percentages in Clay & Platte, too. Apparently this was one issue that the river doesn't divide us on. So who are the 500 people that voted yes on 2 and no on 3? And are there just 11,000 that vote no on everything, no matter what? Had I been able to vote...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Ugh. That reminds me of the perfectly nice apartment building (probably pre-1900 and not a common architectural design in KC) on 17th Street that was torn down for parking/staging for the construction of the Kauffman Center. Yep. I haven't forgotten about that one. Really changed the character of t...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I just got a call from Freedom Inc on my office phone encouraging me to vote for the new airport. Unfortunately I live 1 block outside of city limits so I can't vote. Which is annoying, because I was once against the idea of a new airport but have since changed my mind and am now for it.

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham

One in the Bitterman bldng, and one in the building to the north of that. Most people don't realize that street is Gillham Rd and the parallel street to the west is Gillham Plaza. Why is that, anyway? Why can't Cherry just be Cherry for those 3 blocks? Maybe it made sense on some really old map but...

Re: Bike Lanes

Driving grand yesterday was great. Traffic moved at a reasonable and safe speed, but was still just as efficient as before. As soon as I got to the end of the painted bike lanes on grand I found myself naturally gunning back to 40 and racing to the next stop light. You'd think crown center would wa...

It looks like they were hosted on kcskyscrapers.com, which no longer exists. And it appears that the Wayback Machine did not manage to salvage archives of any of the photo albums.
