Can someone please summarize, for those of us on the wrong side of the paywall?

Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal

No, four-ways DO NOT make them more dangerous for peds. Peds have 100% right of way at a stop sign. You can walk out at any time and a car must wait for you no matter what with or without a marked crosswalk. You're complaining about bad drivers, not the intersection design. Have you been downtown w...

Re: P&L District: 14th & Walnut Site Proposal

It looks like they're moving this intersection to a four-way stop. The light has been flashing red for the past few days and stop signs have been installed. I hate four-way stops - people are idiots. Why do they keep pulling this crap in pedestrian-heavy areas? It makes the intersections so much mo...

Re: Best and Worst Suburban Downtowns

If we are including Leavenworth and Lawrence we might was well include Pleasant Hill and Harrisonville. Both solid Downtown's. Harrisionvile should be a great downtown, but it's too vacant due to nearly all the property being held for decades by a single developer who was saving it for a big projec...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I'll toss in another voice wishing they'd open the doors automatically at stops. A couple of weeks ago I needed to get off at a stop that wasn't one of my normal stops. It was night, and I was apparently the only person getting off at that particular stop. But because it's so freaking bright inside ...

I thought they were putting up a freeway sound barrier until this afternoon when I drove past the Admiral side of it. Looks like some sort of fort.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

The clickbaity local news articles and their hordes of anti-everything internet commentators about last night's Garth Brooks incident is really starting to piss me off. Yes, the Streetcar screwed up by promising they'd run an hour later than usual then not sending buses around when it couldn't happe...

Re: Noooooooob KC library question

Ah, cool, I assumed you'd have to return it to the same branch it was picked up from. Thanks! Edit: Also I didn't realize that "middle" building on the block was part of the library so I didn't look that far down Baltimore. I've only been in the library once and that was just to head to a ...

Noooooooob KC library question

I am currently in possession of a library book that my niece checked out from the Central Library. So far it's proving just about impossible for me to get there during library hours to return it. Do any of you know if it has an after-hours book drop, and if so, where it's located? I couldn't find on...

reported sidewalks blocked by this construction. The construction barriers are making it really hard to see to safely cross at 12th & McGee. The Pickwick initially had the same problem at 9th but mitigated it by replacing a section of barrier with fencing and temporarily making that intersectio...

Re: Union Hill Development

Found a permit related to this work - looks like these are being converted to apartments. Permit KCDowntown "Union Hill on Main" -- Opening in May, so they mustn't be doing that much renovating. Several charity trucks are picking up all the mattresses right now. The new owner must not wan...

At the end of the day, request a ballot and if you're in the district you'll get one and if you're not, you won't. At the end of the day, if someone thinks they live outside the boundry, they're not going to request a ballot. I'm in the sweetspot of your demo. I want this thing. I'm a relatively sa...

It sometimes seems like the sidewalk directly along Main is an interactive trench warfare exhibit. Especially after a heavy rain.

We were joking at work that the date on the photo was wrong and it was from the Monarchs 1924 Negro League World Series victory parade.

Re: Union Hill Development

For what it is worth, they just painted the exterior of The Residence Inn a few weeks ago. Edit: A bit more info, I drove by and they have two rolloff dumpsters in the parking lot. They could be there for an interior remodel. Also, their shuttle van is still there which is a newer one. My bet is th...

World War 1 Centennial

I'm surprised I haven't noticed a thread on this considering what a big deal it is for KC to be hosting this tomorrow, as well as for how disruptive it's going to be for those who work in the area. :) http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article141969674.html http://kcmo.gov/news/2017/wwi-ceremony-t...

Yeah and the Fairfield still seems to be open. (My office window looks right out onto them.) Both places were slammed during the recent basketball tournaments, the Residence Inn appears to have quickly closed right after those ended.

I don't like sours so I turn my nose up at most of their offerings, but their Omar is one of the best Porters I've ever had and rivals Black Squirrel for the title of my favorite local brew.

Re: Union Hill Development

It looks like the Residence Inn - Union Hill (2975 Main) has closed. The sign has come down and the hotel web site shows no available rooms ever again. Has anyone heard anything about plans for this site?
