Re: KCTV5 tower.

This is probably more important to those of us old enough to have a lot of memories of when it was well-lit. At that time it was the dominant feature of the skyline. I even have drawings of the city from when I was a kid where it's the most accurate feature. I'll gladly pay my share to see this lit ...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I've noticed that the "To request a stop..." recording always seems to play when it's approaching the 7th Street stop, but I rarely hear it when approaching any of the others. Is it by design that it plays for stops that are less likely to have people waiting, or does it play if a stop is approachin...

Re: North Kansas City

I flipped my wall calendar to December to write down an event and the illustration for next month was something I haven't seen before. Anyone know anything about this gas station or have seen any actual photos of it? The only thing I could find in Google was a passing reference to it in an obituary....

That's where the new office tower would go, right?
Yep. It was unclear though whether it's closing for site prep or to be a staging area for the work on the other two buildings.

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

I get my hair cut at the shop that's sandwiched between the Clubhouse and the Muehlebach, and they've been notified that the parking lot at 13th & Wyandotte will close permanently at the end of this month.

Re: Various restaurants coming to City

Velvet Freeze opened at least 2 months ago and I think closer to 3. I'm not sure why it keeps showing up as "No opening date was available" on this list. (I haven't been, but the owner was quickly responsive when I asked them a question online.)

Calibration is odd. Most of the times when I'm there it's on a Tuesday and there's maybe half a dozen in there. But then every once in a while the place will be completely packed for no apparent reason and it seems to catch the staff off-guard when it happens. It's not a popular opinion but I'm a bi...

Re: Bird Scooters Have Landed

Ok, when is the city going to start cracking down and ticketing people for riding these things on the sidewalks? They were everywhere on the sidewalks on First Friday. Crowded sidewalks, and about every minute the call of "Excuse me! Coming through! Excuse me!" as another herd of scooter riders push...

That's a bummer. The cathedral-like effect of that structure has made it a great spot for wedding photos (and graduation, and senior, and others).

Remember when Royals Stadium had the round community low sinks? Many thought they were urinals and pissed in them.
I made that mistake as a kid. Mainly because there were about 8 other guys doing the same thing.

Though it does look in that photo like it's been hosed down, the cynic in me thinks they closed the sidewalk just to stop people from calling 311 about it.

Re: Hospital Hill activity

What's being built just east or possibly northeast of the Health Department (~24th & Troost)? I noticed a crane and what looked like new construction over there this morning, but I was running late for work so didn't have time to detour over to see it.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I see UMKC students using the streetcar to save money going out with friends. I remember how broke I was as a student. I would rather have spent cash on that instead of Uber, or gas for my car. There are also movie theaters for students to frequent downtown (Alamo, Screenland). I also see conventio...

They'll need to improve the capacity of the scooters first. You can't currently get lazy and fat without exceeding the weight limit and needing to walk again. :)

One vestige of the bank — the drive-through — will remain as part of the new project and will serve a yet-to-be-identifed coffee shop. The two outer lanes of the drive-through will become ITMs — an internet-based hybrid cousin of the ATM. Mark Moberly, Sunflower’s director of development, said it w...

I do not see anything not shown in the renderings. I think the exterior design of this building will be better received than the Cordish apartments. I was surprised in seeing this from the intersection of 13th & Wyandotte. Even though you could never actually see 670 from there, seeing this hotel f...

Every time this thread gets bumped I get worried about the downtown Tanners, then remember it's been gone for a decade. It was funny going back to the start of this thread. I had all but forgotten about how every business that failed back then blamed either P&L or that customers couldn't smoke in th...
