East-West makes the most sense, that’s where the density is to support ridership.
Beyond a North route, what would be the step after that?
I wonder if a 169/W 63rd/Shawnee Mission Parkway route is worth it? Or do you follow up with a Linwood/Stadium route?

Re: The Xroads First Friday Thread...
Did anyone go? How was it? Art and food trucks too far away from each other to be one event. Art was a bit hard to find, lots of people wandering around lost. Agree with that assessment. The food trucks need to be closer to the art exhibits. You’re supposed to wander… and go to the galleries. There...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?
When talking about locations downtown if the city decides the best decision is to move them there. Then the East Village seems to make the most sense to me. Considering a stadium on the smaller side, such as Target Field; it could easily fit just northeast of the Fed Building. That location, 19th an...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
What updates are there for actually getting this line constructed?
After the ballot results this last year, we really haven't heard too much beyond general planning. When should we expect to see construction actually starting?

New welcome arch sign going up on Armour tomorrow. This explains the odd curb bumpouts they installed last month at Armour & Buchanan that didn't seem serve any useful purpose. https://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/north-kansas-city-gateway-to-be-installed-saturday https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dj...

Re: Drury Plaza Hotel
Looks like a 10-story project. If they smartened up the exterior a bit from this rendering (a little more modern and urban please) I don't hate it. Is the parking garage under the building or adjacent? Hard to tell. For that prime lot, a 2-story parking garage is on par with as bad as a 4 story hot...

Re: What route makes the most sense for a beginning Light Rail line in KC?
My skepticism comes from direct experience watching the city fumble TOD along the downtown route. Had MainCor not been two steps ahead with their overlay, the city would probably just NOW be getting around to doing something (and that's being generous). Couple that with the intense deference to NIM...

Re: What route makes the most sense for a beginning Light Rail line in KC?
None. The only route that made sense will be streetcar. None of these are dense enough to merit the investment, as borne by the expected rating of the 2008 LRT plan that failed at the ballot box (the feds hated the south of Plaza and north of the river parts). Build BRT now and grow ridership, walk...

What route makes the most sense for a beginning Light Rail line in KC?
If Kansas City were to embark on a light rail line to build off the energy and momentum of the streetcar line, what starter route do you think makes the most sense? Light rail being differentiated from a streetcar line by: having a dedicated right-of-way, faster speed, higher capacity, less stops.
Re: Oak Tower
If anyone has seen the professional restoration efforts in Greece, and around Europe, I think restoring Oak Tower would be entirely manageable. Especially considering modern technology, techniques and materials. Sure, part of the problem back in the day may have been a crumbling facade, but that's m...

Re: Should Jackson Co. relocate the Correctional Facility?
Putting jails and prisons far outside of the cities puts the problems out of sight/out of mind, and makes it harder for inmates' families to come visit, a significant factor in reducing recidivism. Also they often end up going in polluted areas. We have a quarter of the world's prison population in...

Should Jackson Co. relocate the Correctional Facility?
‘Disgusting’ conditions greeted auditor on first inspection of Jackson County jail On his first visit to size up the Jackson County jail earlier this year, it was the filth that auditor Jim Rowenhorst initially found most appalling Toilets crusted with feces, filthy mattresses and showers that look...

Re: Oak Tower
If they can restore a lot of the stuff on the Parthenon, Erechtheion, the Archaelogical site at Epidauros and other sites throughout Greece, Italy etc... Then I think it'd be manageable, especially with modern technology, to restore the sculptural exterior on this building. Though it certainly would...

Jesus, take a breath kids. Opposition to transit projects is normal. Everywhere. They sue in San Francisco to stop BRT routes from being built for Christ's sake. Sometimes I wonder if they're right about millennials and participation trophies after all... I also think people forget about this: http...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Kansas City is doomed and I'm gtfo as soon as possible. We will never be able to win against the brain dead rubes. They run every aspect of this backwards "city". I'm done. DONE. Meh, they'll all die off in a decade or two. Most of the idiots who are against transit tend to be in theirs 6...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
That is the whole point of Q1. They don't like the TDD because it wins. I suspect it will be deemed unconstitutional or something by council and not affect much except for bad press. I hope. and this vote again proves why the folks in Platte & Clay County, and probably Eastern/Southern Jackson ...

So, how does Question 1 hurt the TDD and the streetcar if the city IS actually taking it to voters? I mean the city is taking the issue to voters. Just not the entire city.

Meh, while Chastain's plan could help if passed, it isn't necessary. I'm more concerned about Q1.
If Q1 passes, then I hope the city's legal team can find a swift way to strike it down.
