Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
It was called "The Journey" and was removed with the start of the zoo renewal around 2006-2007ish. If I remember correctly, the space was turned into offices and educational spaces. https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/comments/gcvcfg/kansas_city_zoo_the_journey_walkthrough/ This Reddit th...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
I am not sure if this is the right spot to put this, but I was reminiscing about the zoo when I visited it as a child. I am a 90s kid. Does anyone remember the entry building having a sort of walking display/exhibit where a woman's voice was narrating as you moved from room to room? From what I reme...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I haven't seen this mentioned, so it's worth putting out there. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but pretty much every tenant on the plaza is a NNN tenant, so they are each responsible for their share of the real estate taxes, insurance, and common area maintenance. I believe Jackson County ...

Re: Troost developments
The story of this whole block being developed over the past 7 years should be turned into a movie. Kind of an unbelievable turn of events. Pretty much the worst-case scenario played out here.

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time
Found out that the cathedral of the immaculate conception used to look quite different. It was apparently altered in a 50s renovation. https://kchistory.org/islandora/object/kchistory%3A102035/datastream/OBJ/view https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/0f/7d/d6/e8/interior.jpg Was running t...

I believe Crossfirst Bank signed on before construction. Can't remember how much space they took. Obviously, Block planned to take some space as well.

Re: Sporting Kansas City
I'd love a soccer stadium downtown or West Bottoms, etc... but I just don't see how they abandon a stadium that's just over 10 years old and widely considered one of the best soccer stadiums in the country. It sucks they built it out there in KCK, but what would be the incentive to move it? They pre...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
Looks like ESPN might have been working behind the scenes, colluding with the AAC to blow up the Big 12 and get out of their media contract. If less than 5 teams remain in the Big 12, then ESPN wouldn't be on the hook for the $1B that's left in the GOR agreement. Not sure if the legal case has teeth...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
Has anyone that's not a Kansas fan made a case for them joining a major conference? John Skipper (former ESPN CEO) is on the Dan Le Batard podcast today. He thinks KU makes the most sense in the ACC. For Big 10 and SEC, the revenue is driven 80/20 by football/basketball. In the ACC, it's 65/35. Get...

Yeah looks like Girod, the KU Chancellor, finally spoke up and it doesn't inspire confidence:

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
I don't agree that the Big 10 is a tougher conference than the Big 12 in basketball. Also, given that KU's revenue is already 28th in the nation with basically nothing coming from football, their basketball program is already more valuable than most football programs. Not saying it happens anytime s...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
Too tough of a conference? For football? I'd be happy if KU averaged a 5-7 record every year with the odd break of getting to 10 wins once a decade. They'd struggle to do that in the Big 10 still, but they're not gonna be worse than they already are lol. Untethering from KSU would actually help KU t...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
The BIG is set to renew their broadcasting rights in 2 years so there isn't a reason to add a team today, but they might see big value in adding KU basketball to their winter scheduling. KU would probably also take a much lower payout for a few years just to secure their place. As mentioned above, K...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
As of right now, KU is the only remaining Big 12 school to not release a statement about Texas and OU leaving. The school statements released have all included two things: their disappointment in OU and Texas, and some kind of "belief" that the conference will work together to survive and/...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
I am no expert, but, in my opinion, college sports is about to drastically change. Initially, 4 super conferences forming seems plausible (16 colleges each), but I think the end game is bigger. We might be about to see one giant mega-conference formed with the NCAA dissolved, though they may take a ...

Re: Airshow
I imagine with all of the places to watch a downtown airshow, the event was getting poor ticketed attendance. It's so flat out in Gardner that the non-ticket buyers can't get quite a great view of the event since a tree-line or even a one-story building blocks a lot. I loved it downtown, but they we...
