Re: Oak Tower

This technology made me think of Oak Tower and what we all wish could happen to it.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I don't doubt the upscale direction. I imagine Nordstrom's had to be convinced of that fact before signing. I just think luxury shopping and luxury goods might look different to a millenial than to someone my age. I mean, Burberry and Williams-Sonoma leaving seems like a step backward to me, but may...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Seems to me they're shedding quality but old-line stores that played well to my generation (boomers) and are replacing them with, well, fresher options that speak to a younger demographic. I mean, Eddie Bauer was old news even to me. Haven't set foot in one of their stores in years. For example, the...

Really? No pickup on the Berkley idea? He was damned useless as a mayor. The city died on his watch.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Route redundancy is abundant in old KC. Coming south from downtown on Main and can't turn left into Hyde Park? You'll learn to take Gillham. Coming north from the Plaza on Main and can't turn left into Old Hyde Park? You'll learn to take Broadway. Not a big deal.

Rename Berkley Park to MLK Park. MLK did just as much or more for KC as Berkley did.

Would it help if the city undertook an educational campaign linking density, transit, services, and tax revenue? Maybe these folks just don't see the relationships.

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

I'd take Charlotte.

Without any knowledge of what else is out there, I have to agree. A facility as nice as Charlotte's gives riders the sense that they are not an afterthought in the city's transportation plans. It says that bus riders are important to the economy.

I don't agree with any of the affordable housing requirements. And I could only afford "affordable housing" for a big chunk of my life.

Re: Three Light

Affordable housing is necessary. It does not need to be available in every building. Not even in every block. When I worked downtown and needed affordable housing, I lived at 39th and Harrison. I could drive the short distance or take the Troost bus, if I wanted. What's wrong with that?

Who else remembers when Johnson County regularly attracted new back office operations? That would be the '80s and '90s. Did they just stop trying because poaching from KCMO is easier? Or did JC lose its mojo at a national level?
