Re: OFFICIAL - New Downtown YMCA (former Lyric Theater)

I don't remember seeing a rendering of the eastern wall. Does anyone know what it will look like? Largely glass like the western wall was supposed to be?

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Boy. That's brutal to force someone's business to close, dismantle and move under those circumstances. Especially when google maps shows that last May several of the units were empty.

I haven't eaten at one, but isn't Palm a nice addition to downtown's restaurant scene? Not something you see on every corner. Anyone here with a first-hand review?

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

Why wouldn't you be able to board southbound at the new Grand stop after a car had made it's journey to and back from Berkley Park?

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

I don't see that KC failed with Google Fiber. It was what it was - or wasn't. But, I agree with you entirely on the university thing. It has been common knowledge for at least 30 years that the new economy industries rely on higher ed. And Kansas City has, for the most part, turned a deaf ear. This ...

Re: Hyperloop between KC and STL

I would think it's at least partly because of the obvious need for serious reworking of I-70 and MoDOT's interest.

Interesting. They did get some of the data points/labels mixed up, like KC's income and unemployment changes.

Re: Hyperloop between KC and STL

It might be great for KC<->SL only freight. For stuff going further in either direction, you'd have to factor in transfer events (even if at shipping container size) at each end to get goods on/off the loop and on/off connecting modes of transport. Time, infrastructure, money.

Will be a shame if it goes. Nice in its own right and a nice stylistic counterpoint to Unity.

The first rendering was built in Chicago. Yeah, sucks.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

What they get out of this deal is a new, smaller, supportable space for their congregation. They may have worked out a deal similar to that done by the Plaza Library. Free rent might be part of the deal. Perhaps that carries more weight with them than preserving the building. Though, I will be sad t...

Re: Plaza Church of Christ, Scientist
Just noticed on the 46 Penn construction cam that the north side of the tile roof has been patched several times and I don't think all the patches are tile. Suggests that the congregation is having a hard time supporting the building.

Re: Keystone Innovation District

I think that UMKC/Rockhurst/Stowers/MRI makes as much sense as the Crossroads location. Build on what we have. “The idea is to create a place where entrepreneurs, research institutions, students and corporations can collaborate privately and publicly to generate economic impact and workforce readine...
