Re: Dismantling of Great Mall (ongoing)

I see some things never change about Kansas. They are going after STAR bonds to build this redevelopment making sure it will be a "tourist destination". FYI, The Great Mall was highly subsidized and was supposed bring in people from all over the midwest by the bus load too. Now it's a fie...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

KC deserved to be there right along with Nashville, Columbus, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Raleigh etc. KC dropped the ball and I'm pretty sure I know why. Did you see all the sites proposed? I think all but one were in suburban or even exurban locations. No transit, no walkablity, way out in the deep ...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

I don't understand why Target is not looking at KCMO. It's like Downtown KC is not even on their radar and yet they are opening dozens of new stores and have been doing so for years. KC can't be that far down the list. We have an urban Target in the suburb I live in. (two stories, on top of garage)....

Re: Hospital Hill activity

This is once of the nicest high rise buildings proposed (that will actually get built) in the urban core of KC in a very long time from an architectural standpoint. I really like this. And even though it's technically only nine stories, because it's on a parking structure and on a very high elevatio...

Re: Three Light

There is another version of the 3-Light article on the website that still says $130M. Not to be Debbie Downer, but I think they’ve just transposed the 300 units and said $300M in error... Yea, sounds like it. Bummer. I was envisioning at major signature high profile tower going up there for a bit. ...

Re: Three Light

I don't see 300 million mentioned in the article. Where are you guys getting that from? If Three Light is a 300 million dollar project on that site then it would have to be a 35 story plus mixed used tower and probably have some retail too. Nothing else makes sense. That would be amazing if a 300 m...

Good point. Like I said, I think once DC chooses one or two, it will get better. Right now, there are way more bikes then people need (and a lot of people use them).

Re: KC Bike share

At first I thought the bikes without stations might be a cool idea. But now, after having seen them in the DC area for several months, I'm not so sure. The bikes are left everywhere, on sidewalks, in yards, in alleys etc. They are also often on the ground fallen over, either knocked over or the wind...

The Netherland and Monarch on Main

Nice project for Midtown KCMO. This will really change the area and will probably spark some new construction nearby. Exact Partners, led by Denver developer Ilan Salzberg and Kansas City architect Caleb Buland, has announced a $30 million-plus project to be anchored by the 10-story Hawthorn Plaza a...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Good post STLguy1, but I do think it's just a bit biased toward StL. I have always thought that KC sort of "missed the boat" by letting the terminal situation drag out so long. Had MCI built a new terminal 10-15 years ago, I really do think that MCI would be a large focus city for Southwes...

Re: KC Metro Transportation Ideas

you can get about 50% of the metro within 2k of this rail network https://i.imgur.com/0eVediQ.jpg I see this all the time. People always want to run rail on the I-70 corridor in KS to the speedway and they will even completely overlook the I-70 to Blue Springs corridor. The entire county of WyCo ha...

Commuter coach buses

I know the KCATA purchased some commuter coach buses this year and I'm assuming they will be using them on routes like Liberty, Blue Springs and Lee's Summit Express. I have also heard that they use similar buses on the Lawrence to OP route. Has anybody seen them on the streets or have any photos of...

Re: OFFICIAL - 46 Penn Centre

Despite 46 Penn not being all that "iconic", it's great to see all the infill in the plaza area still happening even with Downtown having so much going on. The Plaza is still a very strong and desirable neighborhood. I actually like the 46 Penn office tower. I think it fits in well in the ...

Re: OFFICIAL - 46 Penn Centre

^ sorry kboish, I see you basically said the same thing I did at the same time about parking. It's pretty crazy how much parking buildings need in KC. In this case it's probably not even needed. The garages under both the Lockton tower and 700w47h are HUGE and too big for the buildings and rarely fi...

Re: OFFICIAL - 46 Penn Centre

It amazes me how slowly KC development moves. Scheduled to open in 2020 for a 10-15 story building? Could they put a rush on this...? Yeah, I've been traveling to ATL a lot over the years and they build 30+ story buildings in less time than 10 floors in KC, not sure why KC takes so long. Once somet...

Re: OFFICIAL - 46 Penn Centre

It's great to see a class A spec building started in urban KCMO, although it's still quite smallish. But Ken Block is exactly what is wrong with KC developers. He actually believes this building will be some sort of icon. I don't think it will even be more visible or stand out any more than the Amer...

Edgemoor? WTF? I may have to contact these guys and see about doing their progress photos since they are literally down the street from me. But I gotta say, I never would have imagined. This may be way over the heads of a firm like Edgemoor and they will not know the community at all.
