Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

They say this project will have about 1000 apartments. 400 of them going up in the first phase is impressive. However these renderings look more like 2000-2500 apartments. What is the deal with the Cordish project here? Last I heard they were only going to build a parking structure or something. Is ...

Re: Cerner still committed to Bannister site

The Bannister Mall plan is coming up for review in front of the TIF Commission. I still think this plan should include dense residential housing to be successful long-term. Otherwise, we will be back at the same place in 25 years. Should we be writing the TIF Commission to voice this point-of-view?...

I guess I have never noticed, but I always thought Sixt was just in Europe, Australia etc. It's always an option when I travel international, but have never used it in America.

Any chance they actually build? Seems like Block sits on a lot of property, at least in the urban core.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Royals are getting a lot of crowds of around 10k and are barley able to average 17k Fri-Sun. KC is in the same group with Tampa and Miami before you jump 3k to all the other teams that average at least 18k a game with the vast majority well over 20k. Is that even sustainable? If KC doesn't get t...

Wow, impressive. Kind of a cross between navy yard, dc wharf and national harbor here in dc.

Re: T-Mobile Center (formerly Sprint Center)

So just using numbers from 2024, you would add 41 (actually typically more including preseason and playoff games). I'm just not sure how you can argue that downtown is better off without a pro tenant from a "keep downtown busy" perspective. 90% of the concerts and other events will find th...

Re: T-Mobile Center (formerly Sprint Center)

If it were only that easy. Kansas City isn’t an anchor market when it comes to touring acts. They route through and if a date they want isn’t available they’ve got other choices and will simply skip the market. Toss in needing to work around a pro team schedule and you’d 100% lose several concert d...

Re: T-Mobile Center (formerly Sprint Center)

Why would the arena not still get all the same concerts it does? The arena sits empty way too many nights a year. A pro team with 40-50 additional nights of 15,000 people downtown would absolutely help the city, at least downtown. Now is it worth the public money it would take to attract a team? Tha...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

That's still going on? There were volleyball tournaments in town last time we were there back in Feb. Most people walking downtown and probably half the people going through KCI while we did were there for that. Seems like a huge event. Must be multiple events.

Re: OFFICIAL - Main Street Streetcar Extension

They wouldn’t but at least could cover operations. The Waldo area is ripe for dense redevelopment. Yeah, Waldo should be seeing the kind of development that downtown Overland Park is seeing. Rip out all those strip malls and what not. They could put up a large mixed use development south of 75th.

After looking at the plans in detail for the Main St Extension and the additional areas where the trams should be in dedicated right of way more often, I think they have done a pretty good job with this extension despite it not being center running. I still think they may have to ultimately figure ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Main Street Streetcar Extension

Starting to see the amount of space they are leaving for streetside parking along the route, I don't see how cars are going to fit in those spaces and not impede the train....and I'm all for it. Sly way to cut the parking without saying you're going to cut the parking? and they had to be aware of t...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

What is up with the Cards asking for 600 million? 600 million for relatively new stadium? I mean KC's new stadium will only cost 30% more! All in a market that consistently draws 35k a night? Meaning they have no reason to go crazy on renovations. They are dong this NOW? When KC is in the middle of ...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread

KCATA needs to look to a city like Austin for an example of how to run a bus system. I was impressed with that system while working out there and Texas also appears to provide little if any funding much like Missouri. Yeah, Austin has suburban transit centers that are much larger and busier than KC...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

No shot they get their second round (after 2006) of state funding package for a stadium whilst KC can't even get it's first one still. You can thank the mayor for the state treating us like their red headed step child KC has received short shrift from Missouri for a long time and over the tenures o...

STL Cardinals will ask the local and/state government for over $500 million to renovate Busch Stadium. No shot they get their second round (after 2006) of state funding package for a stadium whilst KC can't even get it's first one still. Have things changed? StL has a lot of pull in Jeff City. KC t...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread

This is KC's transit problem, no funding from the state. But KC is not like Denver (Colorado also doesn't fund transit much), but Denver has a regional transit sales tax collected across multiple counties. KCATA does not even have a single county wide tax, but relies only on each individual city. (J...
