Re: North Plaza Hotel- 46th and Broadway

Nice infill project for a very underutilized block.

Re: Brookside

I recall hearing it called Brookside East when I lived in the area. I think it's more of a way of telling people what part of the city you are in than anything else. And Prairie Village is the one that should be re branded to Brookside West. PV is basically a Brookside wannabe, or at least it used t...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

^ It depends on where your flight it coming from and the direction of the wind. When I fly into KC, I will often fly right over downtown and land from the south. I think you have about as good a chance of seeing downtown KC as you do seeing downtown St Louis. By the way, the flight from DC or Baltim...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Where the hell were you all during the public comment period? The ship has sailed. Well, I don't live there. I just figured planners would push a dedicated center lane hard. You would basically have light rail infrastructure in the core of the city at that point and a really nice spine to feed into...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Yeah, I seriously can't believe they didn't go with center tracks. That's the difference between a true transit spine and a fun toy to ride while in the city. Other routes would be fine with curb running shared traffic, but the core line from the plaza to downtown? Come on.

Re: On-going downtown development projects

Some are easily impressed. Infill is nice in lieu of height. Don't get me wrong, Downtown KC is seeing some nice infill. I'm just saying those two photos are nearly identical. You would have to be a development nerd to really find the differences without studying the photos and even then, there are...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

They should submit a list of all major cities and how much they have received in FTA grants over the last 20 years. KC would have to be near the very bottom. KC and MO residents pay into these fed grants, so they should get more of their share back. I would think the KC streetcar would have as good ...

Re: On-going downtown development projects

I don't know where else to post this, so I decided to post this here. I took the first photo on June 22nd, 2015 from the Link Bridge by Union Station. It is below. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/258/18907989119_1b1761b3b1_k.jpg This second photo was from September 30th, 2018 from the same location ...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

Big fan of this going from one report of one place not being busy one Friday night to downtown KC is dead and nothing will make it unless we add a pro team and 10s of thousands of employees and residents. I love you KC rag. I know you always think I'm a debbie downer, but I call it being a realist....

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

I don't think Children's Mercy is a good indicator of Metro KC's corporate community shifting back to downtown. CMH has always been committed to downtown. They would be building even if downtown was still haunted houses. But I did forget about their new building. Downtown KC needs a major migration ...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

^^ bringing new jobs and HQs downtown would have a similar effect 365 days a year. True, but that's mostly 9-5. Plus, even though KC is starting to see some activity for new office space, that office space won't even come close to replacing what has been lost over the past decade. Unless there is a...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

Last time we were in town, we stopped in there during the afternoon for lunch and it was dead. There may have been one other person in there. All of downtown KC always feels pretty much dead to me though. It's just the way KC is. But I was surprised how dead the Ice place was. The branding is pretty...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

Someone wants to drop a 50 story in? Cool. Need it? No. Agree. It would be a "want" for sure. Hopefully these few new construction office buildings actually happen and happen quickly and they lead to more activity. Downtown KC has recently lost over 3 million sq ft of office space to re-purposing f...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

I get what everybody is saying about filling in the parking lots, but KC could use a new 40-50 story tower just to change up the skyline a bit. I mean, the skyline really has not changed drastically in decades. A new tall building would give the skyline and the image of the city a little attention. ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

The people that did these renderings should send at least the 3D models of the chairs to the people doing the new KCI terminal. The KCI renderings always look like something a middle school tech ed class would come up with. Anyway, it's pretty incredible how massive this building looks even though i...

This project has gone through some pretty stupid versions, but the one that might actually happen doesn't look so bad. https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2019/02/01/mission-gateway-ramps-up-development.html?ana=e_ae_set1&s=article_du&ed=2019-02-01&u=11045158364f8ed1a577365efca62f&t=15490588...
