StrangerThings, thanks for the pics. After seeing the mural, I think it looks fine. I'll climb off soapbox :)

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

Arguably the single most important shot in school history. Key word being "school" not "city". Lawrence and KU are not KC. If KC had a big time sports school like Cincy or Louisville, or ST Louis does, it would make sense. I just would have stuck to KC sports and left the colleg...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

The side facing Truman is (going off memory) a montage of the Royals (2015 WS celebration), Chiefs (Len Dawson), and Sporting KC (Matt Besler). I haven't had a good look at the Grand-facing side to even notice what was on it. Mario Chalmers hitting a 3 in the 2008 National Championship. Arguably th...

Sounds better. Emphasis should be on the city, not a college town 50 miles away. KC itself does't even have a top level college program.

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

I've heard several people grumble at work about the murals on Two Light. The north side has a picture of Wilt Chamberlin playing for KU and on the east side of the garage there is a large picture of Mario Chalmers hitting the 3 when KU won the National Championship in 2008. It makes me smile every ...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

As long as the buildings taper up in height as planned and have at least some noticeable changes in design, I will hold out hope that they will look fine. I do hope Four Light is more of a signature structure though. I would assume that's years from starting construction and once Three Light is up, ...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

I just want everyone to understand we are doing the best we can. I’d love to be a part of a project that’s ground breaking or historically guaranteed to be iconic. We can’t justify that expense when the means to recoup the costs aren’t there. If demand changes and increases for a platinum level apa...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

I had initially assumed that Four Light would occupy only the western half of its block, such that it would have the same footprint as Two and Three but rotated 90 degrees. If Cordish were simply to limit the height of what they build on the sliver that fronts Main it would do a lot to open up view...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

You know what happens when a mid-sized city goes decades in between building high rise buildings? Massive changes in popular design. This “glass wall” argument is exhausting and frutile. Is it Cordish’s responsibility and financial burden to go out of their way to build drastically different buildi...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

I'd also take the fact that there isn't an official rendering of the towers from this angle (the most photographed angle in the city!) as suspicious. Yep, I have always said that. They avoid releasing renderings of the Truman road towers from the most photographed view of the city. Probably because...

Re: Beacon Hill

This was by far the coolest, most interesting part of my last visit to KC. The Beacon Hill neighborhood is finally starting to take off. I can only hope this neighborhood expands to 4-10 times its size in the coming decade or two. New construction especially needs to jump over 71 and start developin...

Re: 4315-4323 Belleview?

Those old houses looked real bad. I hope they do something nice in there with nice landscaping. Every time I go out to Oak Park Mall I love all the trees and flowers they have planted. I think that would really spruce up that area. You are new to "Kansas", yet you know all this block in m...

Re: Kansas City's Twin is Nashville says analysis

Nashville is the Overland Park/Plano of Tennessee. Not even close. I don't think Nashville has a lot on KC "yet", but that city is very likely to make a run at becoming more like a Denver or Minneapolis or Charlotte over the next 15-20 years. Basically, it will probably blow past KC and b...

Re: Closing Grand all the time is stupid.

I just want to go on record as saying this is a "good problem to have". I do think Grand could have been better configured to support pedestrian traffic. I think one of the primary issues is the bollards. I know the city intended to have automated ones that were simple and quick to raise/...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

^ And that’s where my opinion differs from most of yours. I want streetcar for development of Midtown first and as a commuting option second. Those who don’t live in Midtown want a quick run through the neighborhood to get to a restaurant on The Plaza or First Friday’s or Sprint Center. I understan...

Re: Closing Grand all the time is stupid.

For the record, I was only suggesting that Grand is closed too often for long periods of time when it doesn't seem justified. I didn't say it shouldn't ever be closed at all. You even said yourself, it's closed for every event from 6 till 11 and you are closing it for nearly an entire weekend for a...

Re: Closing Grand all the time is stupid.

Capital One Arena also has an attached parking garage, the official parking garage for Sprint Center is below the KC Live block, thus the mass ingress and egress across Grand. 8-[ A very small percent of people use that garage. I go to events all the time at Cap One. People park all over in surroun...
