Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

With the downtown YMCA going elsewhere, I call to remove Swope from the East Village development. What a joke! How many years have they had to get something of substance moving? Of course if it's a barren wasteland for 15 more years, talk can begin about dropping the new downtown baseball stadium ri...

Re: Lawsuit filed over sale of New York Life Building

Done deal, folks! The Catholic diocese closed today on the New York Life building. I know that some were lamenting the loss of tax revenue, but being the papist that I am...this is very exciting as it consolidates staff and puts a classy face on the diocese.

New businesses in The Manhattan

"hasn't that been in the works since they announced the project?"

Its been talk for a long time. However, talk has finally turned into renovations.

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

The ground floor of the Manhattan Condos (700 East 8th Street) has a coffee shop and deli currently being built into it right off 8th. Estimated opening is April or May

Downstairs, we also have a salon that looks like its close to opening right off Admiral.

Old St. Patrick's Oratory is being rededicated as I type!

Folks, there hasn't been much good news on the redevelopment of the downtown, lately. Today there is a great story. Kansas City's oldest church is again open for business at 8th and Cherry. The restoration has been years in the making. Come by and take a look...its gorgeous inside. This is a victory...

Old St. Patrick's Oratory, 8th and Cherry

Below is an update on Old St. Patrick's Oratory. One more old relic of downtown is coming alive again this fall. This will be a fantastic religious and cultural addition to the new downtown. For those who have never witnessed a traditional Catholic Latin High Mass...I highly recommend it. The beauty...

Re: Manhattan Condos 700 West 8th

I live in the Manhattan and love it. I've been in since last February. Sure there are the struggles with construction, but that is about over. The bottom two floors are being finished by the end of Feb. The building is about 75% occupied and all but a handful of units are left. All amenities are ope...

Easy way to enhance City Hall.

I was looking at City Hall today and noticing the tiny, tiny flag flapping in the wind atop the building. It looks like a bath towel drying up there. It's so out of proportion with the building that it looks horrible. Solution? A very large and stately pole and flag (ala Shoney's) with high quality ...

Sounds like the same place...maybe they have been around a little longer than I thought. They said KCFX will be there this Thursday lunch to kick off the grand opening weekend.

Re: New place...best pizza I've had.

From my understanding, its more of a St. Louis style. The sauce is outstanding and the toppings are very strong.

New place...best pizza I've had (Westwood Pizza)

I ducked into a little hole in the wall tonight called Westwood Pizza. Its brand new. Their grand opening is next weekend. Their thin crust pizza is absolutely phenomenal! I'd highly recommend. Westwood is located in the strip mall directly east of Oklahoma Joe's on 47th Street. Right next to the th...

Re: TODAY! 8th St. Tunnel Tour!

I don't care what they do with this...but they gotta do something! When these sort of things are capitalized upon, they add an element of character to the entire urban core.

But seriously...is there really any hope to this becoming anything??

Is downtown redevelopment losing momentum?

It's been a while since there was a significant addition announced... -- East Village is stalling. -- Dunn HQ is now in question. -- Another 1000 room convention hotel seems to be a long way off. -- GSA is no lock. -- Downtown resident population has been stuck at 16k for a few years now. Its an exc...
