Re: KC in TV and Movies

Good to see a beautiful day in KC, the JC Nichols fountain and some of the nice buildings around it on the Today Show this AM with Al Roker. He said a lot of nice things about KC.

Re: Indy Superbowl

I think the discussion of Indy's performance and reception as a Super Bowl host city contains a lot of lessons for KC. They have done a great job over the years pulling towards a common goal in that region...the original RCA Dome, remember, was one of the first big steps on their mission towards do...

The whole city got behind it from before the beginning. A citywide common goal.

Re: Indy Superbowl

I forgot to mention part of my reason. I remember when I still lived there everyone was wanting a DT stadium. That stadium is one of the reasons for it being a long term goal.

Go Eli!!!!

Indy Superbowl

http://www.indianapolissuperbowl.com/ You young guys and gals really really need to work on doing this for KC. It is absolutely wonderful what this is doing for Indianapolis. Granted Indy has a lot going for it when they were chosen a few years back. It was already vibrant with a vibrant DT, etc. I ...

Recognize this?

Bridge

The construction of this was interesting for sure. Much smaller than the Paseo, but still quite similar.

Re: Installing geothermal heating and cooling systems

They indicated to me twice the price of a dual stage heat pump and new furnace for a full geothermal system in our house.  Options we looked at were 10-12K.  He said a geo system would be $20-25K.  He didn't do a full quote for geo but a ballpark based on the size of our house. Wow-the differences ...

Re: Installing geothermal heating and cooling systems

nota - we are looking at replacing our old system with a heat pump and new furnace and they mentioned they could indeed do geo at our house with vertical pipes.  It would be about twice the expense.  It's a big mess, but if you are willing to put up with that and the added expense, yes it can be do...

Re: Installing geothermal heating and cooling systems

Just a question-the one geothermal home that we built in the 70s had to have the pipes laid horizontally in the yard, now that they are able to do it vertically-would this be able to be installed in a city lot home? That is if the owner wanted to do it or would it only be logical for new construction?

Re: Neighborhood Security ?

It was incredibly dark in our immediate neighborhood, and more than a little creepy, Don't ever not trust that old warning sign of the hair standing up on the back of your neck. Your body or mind is trying to tell you something. And there are many times the same neighborhood doesnt' give me that ...

Re: Neighborhood Security ?

Regarding streetlights and city/burb-most of the burbs that have an HOA pay for, install, and maintain their own after the initial subdivision is built. Depends on how active the HOA is on how often the lights get changed, fixed, etc. Costs lots of bucks-not included in taxes like in the city. That'...

Re: Urban Gardening and Landscaping

I had a relative tell me that if you have a cat you should clean the fur out of your cat brush and put it around the edge of the garden so the bunnies will smell the cat and stay away.  Anyone have feedback on the effectiveness of this strategy?  The downside seems to be risk of cat hair in your ve...

Re: Rabbits Is a fence the only effective way to keep them out? Is that effective? You might try mothballs around the perimeter or one of the commercial repellents but the fence will work better than either of those. I don't like the mothball trick if there are children or pets who can have access ...
