Re: How Many People Live in the West Bottoms?
Thanks, guys. The coffee place is Blip Roasters. He has been roasting down there since 2014 in a corner of the Bliss Syrup building. The walk-up cafe is going to be cool and he is moving slowly and methodically, so I think it'll work nicely. He already had the space, and buildout is pretty modest on...

Re: Does anyone know how many floors the Kansas City Life Insurance Bldg Had?
It just struck me that I've been volunteering at KC CARE Clinic for 8 years and it's literally right across the street from this building. LOLOLOLOL

How Many People Live in the West Bottoms?
Writing a coffee review for KCcoffeegeek.com on Blip Coffee Roasters, located in the West Bottoms, and they are about ready to open their walk-up coffee shop which will be open all week. I'm curious how many people actually live in the West Bottoms to be able to sustain a during-the-week business (a...

General questions about Sanborn maps of KC
First of all, this forum has been INCREDIBLY helpful on my research for a project/paper I'm working on. Concerning the Sanborn maps (which I found interesting general info about), the ones for KC have a wide range of dates sometimes. For example, if I'm looking at the building that occupied 436 Pros...

Re: Trying to find photos and history of 1417 Linwood
So, part of the fuzziness of this story is that a lot of what I "know" about the Cleveland family history and the early years of the school is stuff that has been passed down by the family in speeches and things, as well as in published documents that aren't necessarily totally correct (i....

Re: Trying to find photos and history of 1417 Linwood
To me, looking at the photo and comparing it to the map you provided, it looks plausible.... The detail in the photo that is obscured by the tree looks like it could be a round turret that could be capped with a cupola. It looks flat in the photo and that tree doesn't help, but I get the sense that ...

Re: Trying to find photos and history of 1417 Linwood
FangKC, do you think the photo above matches the description you gave of the structure with the cupola and wraparound porch? Certainly looks like it matches up to me. Thanks so much for finding this! Thanks for all the info!

Re: Trying to find photos and history of 1417 Linwood
And, according to the dates I've located off of bills, mail, checks, etc etc so far, the Clevelands would've been occupying this location as early as 30 June, 1924 and was there at least until 1928. They may've been there for several years after 1928, too, it's hard to tell yet, but this brochure th...

AlbertHammond, I'm having trouble interpreting that map. Any idea which lot may be 1417 Linwood Blvd?

Re: Trying to find photos and history of 1417 Linwood
DaveKCMO, it doesn't show up in that archive at all.
AlbertHammond, thanks for the map. Where did you find that?
WSPanic, it would've looked like big house. The next block over was what would become the Scottish Rite building in the 1930's I think.

Re: Does anyone know how many floors the Kansas City Life Insurance Bldg Had?
Thanks, that's what I thought, too. I have a feeling they may have had an office BRIEFLY in the New York Life Bldg and this piece of mail in our archive was mis-addressed. Thanks for your help, I found photos of the KC Life Bldg and it didn't look like it had enough floors in the photo.

Trying to find photos and history of 1417 Linwood
I am working on a paper on the history of the various locations where Cleveland Chiropractic College was located and the Clevelands spent some years at 1417 Linwood Blvd. My best estimation is that they were there from about 1924-1932 or so. The only photo I've been able to find is on a CCC brochure...

Does anyone know how many floors the Kansas City Life Insurance Bldg Had?
Does anyone know offhand how many floors (i.e was there a 7th floor) the Kansas City Life Insurance Bldg had? It was built in 1924 and was on 35th-ish and Broadway. Weird question, I know, but I am trying to work out if someone had an office at "704" in that building or if maybe it was act...

Re: Longshot question about painted wall inside a loft 700 B
I found this: http://700broadwayloft.com/pictures/ins ... lSize=true. They referred to the KMT Railroad as the Katy Lines, so maybe at one point they referred to it as the Katy Line? This appears to be part of the same wall, although I don't know that for sure...

Longshot question about painted wall inside a loft 700 Brdwy
I know this is a long shot but it never hurts to ask... A friend just moved into a loft right across the street from Folgers and one of her walls is composed of what must've been an outside wall of the building next door. There is a woman in a hat, looks turn of the century. In big letters you can s...

Re: Phil's Coffee Shoppe & Grill - 634 E. 63rd St
Boy, it's a good thing I work in the main campus Cleveland Chiropractic clinic instead of the Brookside location (right across the street from this place) anymore, or I'd have to roll to work!
