Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

Totally agree about the cap, but it sounds like gentrification isn't the primary driver of this. After reading this I'd image that there are properties in areas that have seen little investment but received large increases nonetheless. "The system isn’t changing, but the focus of the every-other-ye...

Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

Just got in from being out of the country for 3 weeks to find out about my 136% increase in property taxes. I'll echo what others have said in that my property assessment was way low for many years, but there are some crazy single year increases in my neighborhood. I used to think that the really ba...

Re: Bringing Conventions to Kansas City

KC won't have the turnout Nashville did and like KCP stated, KC just isn't a party town like Vegas, NO or Nashville. I wouldn't want that vibe downtown all the time anyway. Can you image if our Broadway street was lined with bars for 8-10 blocks...that would be a nightmare and I'm guessing a lot of...

C-suite exec at JetBlue said that they will probably start MCI service once the new terminal comes online. Have heard similar from multiple other sources as well.
But... but... didn't all the naysayers claim the new terminal wouldn't bring in new flights or travel options?

I have a consulting firm that will name your hipster business for you for $5,000. I have a set of about 500 rotating, currently precious words, and I use a sophisticated random number generator to combine two of them, ala Opal + Heart, Sage & Satchel, or Court and King.

AL's biggest concern right now, IMO, is still managing through the growth and scaling in a smart way without overburdening the staff. They have unique teacher issues considering they bring in mostly foreign teachers, but the teachers are pretty passionate about the IB curriculum and immersion style ...

Is it just me, or is everyone getting diagnosed with Hashimoto's lately? I feel like this is the perfect storm of something that needs to be used to improve the nexus of how we join healthcare systems, food systems, diet, food ingredients, and environmentalism. People go from making fun of gluten fr...

At least it could be more like college. Since pro offenses are better, maybe give them the ball at the 50 yard line, and let them try to match each other. It would be pretty exciting.

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

To move 10,000 people in 60 minutes takes 20 trains departing every 60 seconds. Streetcar service wouldn't be designed with the purpose or capability of moving an entire stadium worth of people from downtown. That wouldn't make sense anyhow. It would connect the district, though, during all of the ...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

I'd put it in the West Bottoms close to Hy Vee Arena, with one side of the stadium in Kansas and the other in Missouri (hello bi-state tax). Parking space can be found/already exists and can be purchased or borrowed from Hy Vee Arena with the possibility of a streetcar spur over time. Offices can be...

Re: OFFICIAL - Crossroads Hotel (2107 Central)

Is lazia really going to be closed Monday to Wednesday or is this just as they start up? If they eventually plan to add more nights, very few will notice now that their first encounter with the restaurant shows Thurs. through Sun. Fortunately they are in a hotel, so maybe it's different than with a...

So, 3 days of school closings for 5 inches of snow? I don't care what type of snow or ice mix there is. This was embarrassing for the city among so many other things they are doing an amazing job of.

How does a system that relies on painted lines operate in the winter?
Poorly.
Also, what kind of proximal investment does a painted line attract vs. a fixed rail when the lines can be repainted a few blocks away or erased very cheaply?

Also the reason HIllary lost to Trump wasn't because she was old and establishment, it was because she was Hillary Clinton.
That said, I think old and establishment would be a mistake vs. Trump in 2020. You have to get some of the middle grounders excited about a new direction.
