Re: Heart of America Rapid Transit

Houston is proposing $2 Billion + in light rail lines. Roughly $1.8 Billion is dedicated to two rail lines with an expected ridership of ~2,800 pax/day each. Houston is: 1. Big 2. Rich 3. Growing We are just big. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was not supporting their efforts. I was trying...

Re: Streetcar to the riverfront

I don’t really get this extension. I understand the money was there due to extra tax revenue received in the district, but shouldn’t this have been paid for solely by the casino and Riverfront authority? They are the true benefactors. The line doesn’t run to the casino (yet). The only group that be...

Re: Five Light

How much taller can it go though? I swear there are renderings out there from way back when this was first proposed as h&r block II. I just can't find them or remember much. My limited memory is this is mostly in line with what they were thinking back then. I don't think it was ever designed to be ...

Re: Five Light

I had heard from other sources that they have tenants in mind.

The office lowrise by Barney Allis is very likely to be built now. (Still wish they’d add a dozen floors)

Re: Five Light

Wow, I really like this design. I think it's perfect for the location. Putting the garage up above the retail keeps the street interaction intact and increases the height of what would otherwise be a rather small office tower. The design is something very new and different for downtown. Looks like ...

This is spot on: “His three key elements to an adaptable garage design are flat floors, comfortable floor-to-ceiling heights, and enough loading capacity (in other words, strength) to support another structural use.” https://www.citylab.com/design/2013/11/its-time-design-parking-garages-car-less-fu...

Re: Five Light

Seems designed as a co-working space on top of a large garage....Downtown direly needs a true large floor plate office tower to attract a major employer with hundreds of employees. Office design is changing with this next generation. No one has offices now, it’s all coworking space. Many times it’s...

Re: Five Light

25 stories is a complete surprise to me. At 250K sqft total, the floor plates will be smaller than those of 1 Light. In fact, it appears that the office tower is going to take up just the empty portion of the block. It will not stand above any existing building. Overall I am excited by the project a...

For Concerns: * Not a fan of the entire arrival drive not being covered....but not sure it's a big deal most of the time and going down to arrival level can resolve on those days * While I like the garden / fountain on the departure level I feel like it will be underused and maintenance will by lac...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

I just noticed that Icelandair is upgauging KC from a 737-Max 8 to 757-200 in September. 757 service will be accompanied by a change in the schedule - Friday and Sunday service is being traded for Wednesday and Saturday (still 4 flights a week). One way flights from KCI are ~$130 above Cleveland, ~...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

At one time the loft/refurb & conversion market hit a peak and people thought the downtown renaissance was over. Then new builds such as One Light started up and a whole new market not previously extistent in KC opened up. The market overall continues to grow and downtown flowered. Now that new buil...

Re: Heart of America Rapid Transit

Sorry, gents. There will be no rail -- light or heavy -- in your lifetime south of UMKC or north of NKC... especially not to the airport. The ridership, density, and federal support just isn't there. A few semi related questions: -What do you see our streetcar system looking like in 5,15,20, and 50...
