Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

I just noticed that Icelandair is upgauging KC from a 737-Max 8 to 757-200 in September. 757 service will be accompanied by a change in the schedule - Friday and Sunday service is being traded for Wednesday and Saturday (still 4 flights a week). One way flights from KCI are ~$130 above Cleveland, ~...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

At one time the loft/refurb & conversion market hit a peak and people thought the downtown renaissance was over. Then new builds such as One Light started up and a whole new market not previously extistent in KC opened up. The market overall continues to grow and downtown flowered. Now that new buil...

Re: Heart of America Rapid Transit

Sorry, gents. There will be no rail -- light or heavy -- in your lifetime south of UMKC or north of NKC... especially not to the airport. The ridership, density, and federal support just isn't there. A few semi related questions: -What do you see our streetcar system looking like in 5,15,20, and 50...

Follow up Question: aside from vehicle cost, why are heritage streetcar systems soo much cheaper than modern streetcar systems?

Re: Heart of America Rapid Transit

What a terrible master plan. When will people understand that there is pretty much ZERO justification for any sort of fixed rail to KCI Airport, let alone heavy rail. Realize that rail doesn't NEED to have justification by itself. Rail to the airport is a great plan when you take away the need for ...

Is that second picture showing a subway?
Yes. The proposal is for a rapid transit (heavy rail) system which includes some below ground (subway) portions.

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

Three Light hasn't gotten off the ground yet because of the idiocy that the city council pulled in renegading on their end of the longstanding contract with Cordish that began our DT revitalization. That's it. Cordish has NO motivation to move forward on anything quickly now that the city council h...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

You would honestly have to convince a lot of city staff that first. I’ve heard a number of relatively seasoned, mid level and higher employees express some pretty negative opinions on the core, streetcar, development in downtown. Then someone should clean house. And, no, I’m not kidding. Would have...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

We are seeing a change in the tastes for people in this city. It will continue for many, many decades...generations. Right now, recruiters who bring in professionals with kids to work in the city will likely push those people to houses in Johnson County or the Northland. They will say they have the...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

https://cityscenekc.com/downtown-dazzle-urban-homes-tour-this-saturday/ With the lack of downtown jobs (especially tech type jobs that appeal to younger people) you have to think downtown is reaching that saturation point of those willing to pay more to live downtown AND commute to suburban jobs. T...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

20% vacancy at One and Two Light means they would be able to sell 10% of units (~60 total?) and have plenty of left over units to rent.

5 of the 8 said they would accept the current price if the independent consultant came back with the same cost....not seeing this as much of a problem. Losing Allegiant and Spirit (they won't leave) wouldn't be much of a loss....they fly out of trash cities typically IF they come back with the curr...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

They won't be borrowing city funds, only funds from the airport....probably a fine idea to borrow from the general fund but optics would have been horrible, not worth it. Which would then be paid back by Airline funded bonds. Edgemoor isn’t going to keep working “at risk” if the city keeps pushing ...

Re: Black leaders seek to rename Paseo to MLK Blvd

I'd probably err on the side of "if the community around the street wants to change its name then change it," According to the City Council meeting: The communities around the street haven’t been asked. There has been no outreach to any of the Paseo adjacent neighborhoods associations and groups. W...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

The entire reason for building the new terminal was so Southwest could connect more passengers. So, I am not sure this is some sort of revelation. I think this was expected. Southwest likes to build their flights "mostly" point to point with filling extra space with connections. I would expect this...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Dunno....the story wasn't written specifically from a KC angle so odd it would be mentioned. I agree. The information in the KCBiz article originally ran in a Wall Street Journal piece. SWA previously had not been willing to make statements like that to even the small local news outlets. Coming out...
