Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

What an Urban Planner from Amsterdam has to say about our system and extension. Good. But the layout of the proposed route is madness. So many lanes of striped asphalt. Utter waste. Why not import some of the world's best practice and do center-running (grassy) transit lanes with floating transit st...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

The following is a quote from an outside Urban Planner. I guess this is good news for development in that corridor, but honestly, these street car systems are quite bad. The current route takes 16 minutes according to the schedule, for a 2.2 mile route. That's only 8.25 miles per hour. Buses probabl...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I have never understood how you can support self governance and be against outside control , then attack 1.local groups trying to better their areas and 2. Local groups in locations far from you.

Re: 1800 Walnut

... a notoriously stingy and riskless developer... This is a foolish and ignorant statement. Conservative, maybe. Developments of this size involve tremendous risk, a shit ton of money and a lot of work – which includes employing a lot of people. They have done a lot of large and important developm...

Re: 1800 Walnut

I’m saying that we should be talking/complaing about how there aresurface lots, and the few buildings are like 1 story buildings. Instead of complainingg about how a notoriously stingy and riskless developer actually wants to build something of a good size.

We should be having talks about no density and 1 floor buildings. Not high density and and 14 floor ones

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

How do we get involved though? I’ll that I’ve heard about it is that the chamber wants an AI Highway and Dave and co. doesn’t want rail.

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

1. The Northloop shouldn’t be used IMHO. A stadium at Washington Park area used land owned by the city. Thus the land doesn’t have to be banked nor does it have to be purchased from someone who prevented development in downtown by landbanking. 2. Trying to maximize the revenue sources tied to this s...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

1. A dedicated center lane would be ideal. If support isn’t there, then let’s build a mixed traffic center lane system and then dedicate the lanes later. 2. Dave, how can we get involved in the expansion of rail transit in KC. 3. From my experiences, the community, the unions, and businesses all sup...

Re: 1800 Walnut

I don’t think there should be a limit. Especially along the central corridor-Broadway to Grand.

Also, did someone really say that they didn’t like its scale vs empty parking lots? I think that building to what is there today is the opposite of urban planning. There is nothing around that area really.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

expanding the gates by 4 didn't cause a year delay. That's insanity. The facility had to be "redesigned" to not just have 4 more gates but also the support structure for 7 more gates and be designed in a way for 15 more to be built. I'm saying that all these factors came together to creat...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Not necessarily Edgemoor’s fault. They couldn’t have foreseen 1. The city’s pushback on the MOU. 2. The Airlines asking for a bigger terminal. 3. The FAA telling the avaiation department to slow it down. I think the other firms would likely have run into the exact same issues making their build tim...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I think the argument that they couldn't have expected #3 is horse crap. That's their job and they've build new terminals before and thus should have understood the FAA wanted them to wait until environmental studies were complete. So, I can foresee 4-6 months delay for 1 and 2 but not for the FAA o...
