Re: Companies moving downtown

Is a 2021 opening even possible at this point? 1034 Main would be the fastest new-build candidate of the size needed. No building demolition. No foundation excavation. Plans likely ready-to-go. Parking already planned in design. Next to streetcar line. The only thing I don't know about is if there ...

Re: Companies moving downtown

Is a 2021 opening even possible at this point? A few thoughts/ramblings: I would be surprised if W&R’s public announcement of a HQ move was the actual start of discussions with developers in KCMO. It’s likely that they had a general idea of who/where at that point. It is my understanding that 1034 ...

Re: Companies moving downtown

The KC Star article from today seems to confirm that W&R will be going into new construction. From the business journal: "It (W&R) is looking for Class A space — the top tier in amenities and rent. It also wants enough space to accommodate its present 1,000 area employees and a space that would “pos...

Downtown hotels are now getting away w/out much parking if any. Many who visit don't rent a car. Not sure if a 'luxury' hotel can pull it off but will be interesting to see how they play this. From my experience, higher end customers are more likely to fly into a city and more likely to Uber around...

Re: Companies moving downtown

https://www.kansascity.com/news/business/article235077642.html This article confirms WR is getting about $60 million in incentives from MO to hop the border. It doesn't give any indication as to where or when it will happen, but it does say the company will invest $90 million in its new HQ and move...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

The worst I ever saw was at 11pm at night. We flew Southwest back into town. I went to get the car while everyone else got luggage. Outside the closest doors everyone exits with their luggage there were people loading cars from four of the six lanes. At one spot I had to angle across two lanes of t...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

This has turned out much better than I thought it would. I think I even like the shorter tower and massing of it better now. It fits the area better. A 40 story building there would have dwarfed everything in the area and been out of scale and it would probably take up the same footprint with all t...

Re: KC metro growth and migration stats

The in-migration from Africa was probably higher then because of the influx of refugees from ongoing conflicts in Somalia, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I know there are a lot of Somalis, Sudanese, and Congolese living in the Historic Northeast neighborhood. I don' t know what is goi...

I don't even know the point of this line of discussion but I'm done if we as a group of urban enthusiasts walk by KC bus stops and think nobody will ride the bus because everybody at the bus stop is unsavory homeless drunk people. It's just messed up in a lot of ways. I know the reality, I’m talkin...

It sounds like your perception based on looking at a bus stop? What a poor way to determine nobody rides the bus.
I don't think its DColeKC's literal perception. I agree that many people (unfortunately) think how he described.

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

Any location north or east of the CBD will not have downtown views. Pretty sure the stadium has to basically face northeast (when standing at home plate, facing the outfield) Makes sense. I guess it’s time to kick the bougie Californians out of the Westside so we can tear down their houses and buil...
