Re: We need a new airport!!!

Southwest plans to make Kansas City into more of a midcontinent connecting hub. “It’s time to find something that’s cost effective and meets the operational and customer experience needs at an airport,” Mr. Sisneros says(Southwest Airlines).

Re: We need a new airport!!!

The Use and Lease agreement is negotiated between the airlines and the city. Tomorrow's meeting is a public comment meeting. The article notes that the airlines plan on providing a statement. I don't remember SWA having an announcement that they would specifically be attending the meeting. So, Edge...

Re: H&R Block's Second Tower?

Recently saw a promo video for a possible tower on this site (directly west of H&R block tower). Won't be a new tallest or anything, but would certainly be a nice/unique addition to our skyline. I don't know any additional details or likelihood of the project happening, hoping the video is released...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

IMHO. I think that our building looks quite a bit better than theirs.

Has there been any news on that ultra luxury hotel next to the Loews? Did the project end up dying? If so, I would love to see a Loews branded residences or second hotel tower there eventually.

Adjusted for inflation, LOEWS Chicago's construction cost was roughly $210-215million.

I would think that 10 floors of apartments would rent/sell well in that location to capture some of the opera/ballet/symphony crowd.
A redesign like that may have been projected to take too much time to allow the building to be built in time for planned events.

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee

While I would prefer a surface lot project, I honestly don’t have a problem with this “beautiful historic structure” being bulldozed for a better use.

While the scallops would be cool, most popular buildings have flat roofs. Union Station(inside), 1 World Trade Center, etc

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Would have loved to see apartments or condo tacked on. I’m sure the right schedule needed to meet upcoming bookings played into not adding rooms or apartments.

If this hotel goes well, there are still a few empty nearby lots that additional Loews projects could be built on.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

what's with all the wood? Wood is pretty big in architecture at this moment. All the big tech firms are building large wood buildings. Europe has a lot of new wood structures including some high rises. SOM has been researching wood skyscrapers for years. The shift is to replace concrete/steel struc...

From the Cityscene article: As to where a sizable new office project might occur next, Schaeffer believes property controlled mostly by Copaken Brooks west of Broadway between Southwest Boulevard and I-670 would be attractive because its eligible for hefty federal tax breaks. But, KLM doesn’t fly to midsized cities?
The Delta, KLM, and AF joint venture generally bases the operator on who has the stronger Point of Sale (POS). In this case, Delta would by far have the stronger POS as the vast majority of trips would be KC>Europe>KC and not vise versa.

Okay i've had it. the extension is just flat a bad idea based on the success of a good idea and what better way to ruin both then throwing money at a low density, sketchy concept that doesnt intersect anything useful. Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

I still think the best tatl for KC would be Ireland or London. Those would be two of the worst IMO. I’d prefer a continental location with lots of rail connections as well as air connections to the Middle East, Africa, etc. Amsterdam would be my first preferrance. London isn’t the best in terms of ...
