Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

Operating costs will be higher, but you'll also get more ridership. It's a good tradeoff. And the amount of money needed serve another six miles of route is pretty small in the grand scheme of things. Especially when you compare to the upfront construction costs. If you're gonna spend that much mone...

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

Neither line will have better than 10 minute headways, will they? That's barely okay for a one-seat ride, and pretty poor if you need to transfer. And KU Med will never generate enough ridership to match the service levels that will be needed to move people downtown. Having better service levels on ...

Conversely, it allows the trunk to have higher frequencies.

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

If you can only expand your transit system by a few miles per decade, then you shouldn't build parallel lines a quarter of a mile apart. One of the main considerations when building the second line of a system should be creating synergy with the first line. In this case, the first line already conne...

Re: Worlds of Fun becoming Six Flags?

The Hunts had bought some full-size replica boats that had been used as film props. When entering the park, you walked across one of the boats in a moat, and then there was another one sitting nearby in another moat. But since they weren't real boats, their condition deteriorated. It was just a coin...

Re: Worlds of Fun becoming Six Flags?

Worlds of Fun does not seem near as busy as it was when I was a teen. I mean all the parking lots would be filled every weekend and I'm talking about the parking lots they barely ever use anymore (all the lots east of the park). There is a reason why they needed trams, you had to park far away. It'...

Re: Turn the North Loop into a bigger living/working district?

I'm in Krakow right now. There's a linear park that loops around the historic center which at some points is as wide as the north loop trench, and it follows the same design principles that I laid out in this thread: it consists primarily of trees, paths, and benches, there are only a few intersecti...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal

Waiting to depart. Minimal lines. Everything looks great. we demand more details! My only complaint is that I wanted to use the bathroom before going through security but didn't see one anywhere around. There were signs that looked similar to bathroom signs but were actually for the elevator. Maybe...

Re: Capping the Loop

I'm sorry, but much of what's posted in the last couple pages is nonsense. I've lived in dense cities with good transit and good street grids where traffic flows smoothly precisely because of the fact that the transit system is good enough that people don't need to drive and only do it when conditio...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

Neither of those cities is situated well geographically for making connections. Bogota or Lima would be much better. I know LATAM has a Buenos Aires to South Africa flight that a friends taken before. I assume it would probably still be faster to connect through Europe if we got a nonstop there as ...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that people already know their reasons for not attending games and won't be receptive to other people trying to explain it to them.

(and it's location in a corner of the metro area doesn't really negatively impact it to the way that it would if the Royals moved there) Traffic dispersal is already a problem at TSC in its relatively central location. Having all that traffic fanning out in 180 degrees rather than 360 seems like a ...

Re: New Chiefs Stadium

???

Downtown is the center of the hub-and-spoke highway system.

And in any case, I've never been more than ambivalent about a downtown stadium so I don't know why the burden would be on me to defend it. Even if it does happen to be very easy to defend in this respect.

Re: New Chiefs Stadium

Does anyone know anything about all the vacant land south of TSC? Half of it is owned by the city and half by the county. Is there any reason it couldn't be developed? Build transit, build TOD, and suddenly the stadium is tied in much better with the urban core.

Re: New Chiefs Stadium

I don't understand why you guys think that Kansas would want to pay for a new stadium rather than continue to let others pay for it. My understanding has always been that cities lose a bunch of money building stadiums because the teams are able to successfully extort them with threats of leaving. Th...

Re: Turn the North Loop into a bigger living/working district?

Rule #1 in designing a lifeless place is to separate it from the life of the city. It really must be raised to street level. We're talking about something that slopes down about 10 feet from the adjacent streets, just enough to provide clearance beneath the bridges. It's not gonna be cut off from a...

Re: Turn the North Loop into a bigger living/working district?

-Capping or filling the north loop will be expensive. If the linear park concept is pursued (which I'm not endorsing) then hopefully they wouldn't actually fill in 100% of the land. imo it would be better to leave it at least partially below grade so that people can walk underneath the intersecting...
