Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

From that listing, it looks like the Santa Maria is listed individually for $3.5M.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Altar'D State looks to be a Christian/Faith Based Clothing store, https://www.racked.com/2015/9/9/9280177/altard-state-christian-fashion-stores. It might be a good location since there are people that visit from NW Arkansas, Oklahoma and other parts that to be heavily religious. i don't disagree th...

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

i think the food hall will draw people from a much larger radius than that. i would surmise that a large % of the guests at most of the finer restos in KC are largely comprised of people who drove anywhere from 5-20 miles away (esp. JoCo). your typical 25-35 crowd outside at Char Bar on a nice day w...

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

I think folks are underestimating that people all over the metro, including the city, will drive to go to this place (assuming it's worthwhile and strikes a chord). It's not an amenity just for people who live in Mission or the KS burbs. similarly, many places in the city (esp. higher-end restaurant...

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

interestingly, that rendering shows the food hall and the "entertainment" space is next to it. I was thinking the food hall was the entertainment tenant (what with the games and whatnot).

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

The KC Star reported a couple months ago that there was some vague progress being made, and referenced an "entertainment" tenant. But yeah, this is definitely unexpected and from an unexpected source.

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

I share that concern about the execution of celeb chef concepts across the country, but I do have some faith in Colicchio himself. Per the article, his restaurant group is directly involved, he isn't just licensing his name (or so it appears). His restaurants in other parts of the country are well-e...

Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

Re: Brookside

we enjoyed it as well. i got the "DIY" street tacos, in which the components all had pretty good flavor, although the DIY component is kind of unnecessary. Also the tortillas, while local and fresh, disintegrated in my hands. so that was kind of disappointing - but i was happy to eat every...

this may be addressed elsewhere - but what is up with all the hotel activity in KC in the last few years? who is staying in all these hotel rooms? has convention biz picked up, or is there something else driving it?

Re: Whole Foods mixed-use project @ 51/Oak

I very rarely eat farmed meat with the exception of fish, and haven’t for years. When I do it’s almost always from a butcher shop. that's a fair point. we buy a lot of meat from Broadway Butcher, esp. when we're just like, "we want to grill something, let's see what looks good at broadway butc...

Re: Whole Foods mixed-use project @ 51/Oak

I just never liked Whole Foods meat selection. All of it just seems pre packaged and shipped in from elsewhere. I don't think they have butchers in the stores but I could be wrong we haven't been to the 119th or olathe stores, but the 91st street WF store has a great fresh meat selection (and, yeah...

Re: Whole Foods mixed-use project @ 51/Oak

I don't know if this will go over too good. Their prices are way too high. I have a feeling Whole Foods is going away from full service grocer and seem to be focusing more on grab and go items. It wasn't really the prices that bothered me its just coming up with meals with what they are selling. I ...

Re: Urbanism and Pros and Cons of Gentrification

$200K doesn't go very far in the burbs either. You don't get much for that money - if you're talking Olathe, LS, Parkville, OP, etc. you might get a 10-30 year old split level, 1800-2200 sq ft, that is pretty dated.

Re: Urbanism and Pros and Cons of Gentrification

To echo one of chaglang's points, i think the effects of gentrification in KC are more felt among renters than buyers. It has always been true, even in KC, that folks will seek out "marginal" areas so their money will go farther in buying a home, which can result in these neighborhoods bec...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

1. while i'd rather see KC on the list, than not on the list, does anyone really think this is a legitimate search? the way amazon is run, i would bet anything they decided where HQ2 would be located well before the RFP request. The RFP request is clearly marketing and not a legitimate process. even...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

a few years ago, I was present at an intimate meeting of the HP board (and maybe a handful of other engaged neighbors) with City personnel and a group of neighbors on a single block of hyde park who were pitching a fit over MAC tenants parking on the street. literally every homeowner had a private d...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I just flew KCI over the weekend. My experience was like an informercial in support of a new KCI. I walked in to the packed gate area (SWA) at about 6pm, just as the small snack vendor was closing up shop. I could hear numerous people around me complaining and grumbling over the dearth of food insid...
